Found Mold On My Cheap Old Hookah...

Recommended Posts

I just found mold around the holes between the grommets on the stem of my 2 years old cheap brandless hookah, and i was forced to throw it out. But yeah is it possible for all types of hookah to grow mold? or is it only certain ones with certain materials that its made of? Its very disgusting and i really dont want to deal with it again...

thats absolutely nasty, but possible if you tucked a hookah away for 2 years and it didn't have a good washing, especially if you left water in it for that long. 2 things you need to do, buy a new, good quality rig, and appreciated/respect it enough to clean it before and/or after each use.

If it's washed and cared for properly, no it won't.

You could have saved that hookah. Bleach could have removed the mold and cleaned enough to smoke again.

I'm crying for that hookah, left somewhere in the cold harsh winter, in some dumpster somewhere, forced to sleep under the stars with a ratty blanket and noone to provide the coals it so desperately wants for that warm smoky feeling just one more time.

I am paranoid about hookah hygiene. When I am done smoking I always give it a good rinse and keep the stem separated from the base. One time I left my rotator hookah attached with water for over a month. It took several hours to clean up the buildup that grew on that pipe.

i packed away my hookahs for like a month maybe and then got them out and i had mold on my QT so i used some clorox wipes and cleaned it up.... good as new. it mustve had some moisture when i put it away. i dont think it will hurt it as long as its been sanitized.

once the mold starts spreading, its like hookah cancer. I had a cheap 4 hose hookah with a small crack on the bottom of the glass. the stand that the glass screwed into started molding up and it moved into the glass, up the stem, into the valves, into the hoses. It all had to go. I tried cleaning it with vinegar and alcohol (not at the same time of course), nothing would do it. but the mold was actually in the glass crack at this time, so if the mold is just in the base its probably pretty easy to get rid of. all the sugar residue from the molasses makes it a great haven for mold, bacteria, other microbial goodies. I don't think mold can grow on stainless steel. I am pretty sure it can't grow on brass/copper either. Its the quality of the pipe. I would rig a bath of rubbing alcohol and try soaking the sonafabitch in it for a day. Make sure you soak it in water after that, to wash all the alcohol out of all the little cracks. Of course, the rubbing alcohol might be worth more than the whole hookah.
