How Long Are Your Sessions ?

Recommended Posts

I'd like to see how long everyone's sessions are when they smoke.

This is for folks who actually have taken the time, or will take the time, to pay attention to the clock pretty close, and post their actual results. If you are interested in seeing your REAL data and times compared to others that have done the same, this is for you.

This is not for you folks who want to make claims that you can smoke the same bowl for 20 hours, with the same amount of flavor the entire time, using only 3 coals for the entire duration, all while your cat manages the heat for you perfectly, and your model/stripper girlfriend holds the hose for you.

In short, this for people who want to be real, and keep it real.

THIS IS NOT A CONTEST! THIS IS NOT ALL ABOUT "STRETCHING" YOUR DURATION TIME LONGER JUST TO LOOK COOLER THAN THE NEXT GUY!

PLEASE specify the following in this order. It would be best just to copy and paste this format when you post.

Shisha - Brand
Bowl - Type AND Size
Foil - Standard OR Heavy Duty AND How many layers
Hole Pattern - Give a general description as best you can
Coals - Which coals AND number of coals used. Please specify if you use a different number to start the bowl, then add more/less to dial the bowl and heat management in correctly. ALSO, if your final "Duration" number includes 2nd (or more) rounds of coals, be sure to specify that here too.
Duration - Number of hours rounded to the nearest 0.25 hours (Ex: 1.25 hours). Please also specify how many people are smoking the bowl, and how often it's being hit. How long with good smoke and flavor ?

Shisha - Al Fakher
Bowl - Tangiers Phunnel - Small
Foil - Heavy Duty - 1 layer
Hole Pattern - Outer ring of about 12 holes, inner ring of about 8. No hole over the middle.
Coals - Exoticas. I use 3 quarter pieces to get it started, then take it down to 2 pieces for a while. Add the 3rd back when needed, along with a wind cover here and there. We smoke quick enough that we don't really ever need a 2nd set of coals.
Duration - Full smoke and flavor for average 1 hour, sometimes 1.25, with 2 people more or less hitting it nearly the entire time. I'd say the bowl rarely goes for more than about 45 seconds w/o one of us hitting it for a few puffs.

Shisha - Al Fakher
Bowl - Tangiers Phunnel - Small
Foil - One layer of HD Foil.
Hole Pattern - 12 outer holes, 8 middle, 6 inner most ring, and one in the center
Coals - Coconaras. Use three to start. Take off the third once everything is heated up. I could just use a windcover but I'm lazy. Would use maybe 10-12 coals per bowl of AF in the medium phunnel.
Duration - Around 2.5 till the flavor starts to mellow out, but still good smoke. Well like last night it was just 2 people including myself with constant smoking between the two. Edited by click

Shisha - Potion Mint Chocolate Chip
Bowl - Regular size Egyptian Bowl
Foil - One Heavy Sheet of Foil.
Hole Pattern - Form a circle of small holes starting from the outside of the bowl into the middle of the bowl.
Coals - Exotica Natural, about 3 small pieces to begin and 2 small piece thereafter.
Duration - About an hour and a half. Every twenty minutes I take off the bowl and shake it up and blow a lot of air through the bottom of the bowl (to preserve the flavor).

Shisha - AF Mint
Bowl - Med. Phunel, NO mod
Foil - 2 layers HD
Hole Pattern - 8-10 innermost ring: within 1/4" of nub. 30ish outermost ring: within 1/8" of edge. 10-15 holes scattered between the two.
Coals - In the dorm I'll start with 2 40mm 3K QLs, then as they die out try to keep approximately 2 half-pieces on at all times for the rest of the session. With this method I'll usually use about 3 whole disks for the first hour, then 2-3 for each hour after that.
Duration - Honestly this outlasts me longer than I outlast it. I've smoked this for 4 hours before, no problem, with two active hoses + 6-8 people. As long as you don't let it cherry then it'll go on forever. The smoke dies before the flavor easily.

Shisha - Nahkla layer over the holes and AF on top. Either caramel or melon Nahkla for either coffee or fruit AF.

Coals - Coco Naras, 1 at a time, 4 coals
Windcover Use - Frequently
Duration - Just under 4 hours

Shisha - Tangiers
Bowl - Medium phunnel
Foil - Heavy duty, single layer
Hole Pattern - 3 rings, no hole in centre
Coals - Coco Naras, 2-1/2 at a time
Windcover Use - Infrequently
Duration - 12-16 hours

if i use a the phunnel with layalina and 1 layer of HD foil i can get about 3 hours out of it, then the smoke loses flavor but still smokes.

if i use my little glass bowl with fusion and i layer of HD foil i can get about 1 hour out of it then its burnt

if i use any other bowl with layalina and 1 layer of HD foil i can get about 2 hours tops out of it.

i use natural bulk coal on a KM pharonie with ice/water in the base.

holes pattern is a 24 hole pattern, 12 outside then 8 then 4 in the middle

no wind cover cuz i dont have one, but i used to use them before.

My Smoke from yesterday
Shisha - Laylina Blueberry
Bowl - Small Tangiers Phunnel
Foil - Standard Meijer Brand, with 1 layer
Hole Pattern - 2 rings 18 on the outer and 14 on the inner and 1 hole in the middle. all holes made by push pin except center that was made by paper clip
Coals - Used 3 cocos to get it going then after like 30 mins backed it down to 2 the waited like 10 more put 3 back on and smoked it out. Then like 45 mins later threw 2 more on.
Duration - With the first 3 it lasted like 1hr - 1.15 hr. Then when i threw the other 2 on i smoke for like 20 mins but then had to leave so i put the coals out. The bowl i saved and am going to smoke it today. I have a hard time smoking for long durations though... it makes me kinda sick. i like shorter hour or so long smokes.

Shisha - Al Fakher Tobacco

Bowl - Tangier's Medium Phunnel Bowl

Foil - Reynold's Heavy Duty Wrap

Hole Pattern - 2 rings on the outer edges, no holes in the middle.

Coals - 3 Coconaras on the medium, 2 just won't do it.

Duration - The 3 cocos would last me around an hour and fifteen minutes on average. 45 minutes of full volume smoke and another 30 minutes with decent but more diminished clouds, but flavor wise it will still go strong.

Almost 4 hours out of a Mya bowl ? rolleyes.gif

12+ hours out of a medium phunnel ? Are you taking a hit like once every 10 mins ?

A Mya Bambino bowl.

In both types of session I'm taking full lung capacity hits about 4-6 times a minute, and I have freakishly huge lungs, according to all my SCUBA partners.

Shisha -AF, always chaning flavors but most common are ESK, Two Apples, Apple, Mint
Bowl - Egyptian Clay
Foil - Pharaohs Hookah Foil
Hole Pattern - Poke holes all the way from the foil though to the 5 holes in th bowl, then random pin sized holes
Coals - 3 CH Natural
Windcover Use - Never, well except to put over the coals when lighting over a side grill flame, this speeds up lighting times.
Duration - 45minutes before I need to add 1-2 more coals and go for another 30 minutes

I am going to pick up one of those Bambino bowls and replicate what you're saying. I do actually hope you are true to these statements, cause that would rock!

Of course it's true ~ I've done this over three hundred times.

Like I said, thin layer of nakhla on the bottom for improved air and heat circulation, critical for getting thick clouds of smoke the hole time, with AF on top of it, filled nearly to the top of the bowl with heavy duty foil.

This is the hole pattern. The reason you use this pattern is to lessen the room-temp air getting into the bowl, which dilutes flavour and density of smoke. You can actually do one better by poking each 'spoke' just before you put the coal on it... but personally I find the hassle of this to outweigh the improved smoke.

1 Coco Nara or similar coal on each "spoke", followed by a fourth in the centre. Admittedly for the fourth one you're going to get some reduction in flavour, but it's still going to be tasty, full-bodied smoke. If you're more concerned about saving coal than you are about saving shisha, stop at 3 Coals and just start a new bowl.

If it actually seems far-fetched to you, I shudder to think about how much shisha you've been wasting tongue.gif

I personally don't think I've been wasting any shisha, because when I unfoil my bowls after my average 1.25 hour session, the shisha is dark and burnt all the way through to the bottom. That is why I created this thread, because of all the claims I had seen thrown around about 3-4 hour sessions (non-Tangiers). Since all my shisha was being used up, and I didn't seem to be doing anything out of the ordinary, I felt these claims were a bit strecthed - and I still do personally, until I see it first hand, whether it's myself or someone else managing the bowl.

Shisha: Rommon (1:45), AF (1:45) Starbuzz (2:00)
bowl: generic ceramic bowl (approx 10-15g)
coals: Golden quick-lights (two used, one at first, then the second when the first one is starting to weaken significantly)
screen: generic metal screen
windcover: yes
duration: typically 1:45...for some reason I am getting 2 hours out of a bowl of Starbuzz Pomegranite.

Basically, I just keep smoking until I have no smoke or very little smoke while the coal is still producing adequate heat. If the used Shisha doesn't just fall out of the bowl when tipped, it hasn't been smoked long enough smile.gif

Shoot, I can't find an edit button (LOL, looked like I waited too long, that's why)....oh well...to add info on the duration number....this is pretty much just me, constantly hitting on it. I find counting group sessions a bit harder, since I have one friend that bogarts the hose for about 15 minutes or until I chuck an unlit coal at him, then another that will pretty much barely inhales (smokes hookah only, no cigarettes or cigars, so that may be why).

Either way, a solo session to me is the best way to gauge it. Perhaps it's luck on my part, but with constant windscreen usage I get a really good burn from a single coal, then just add a coal when that one is wearing down. Edited by mustang_steve

I didnt say it was the Starbuzz part giving me the flavor for 8 hours. The Starbuzz taste lasts about 2 hours and the rest of the time it just purely rounds out the Pharaohs flavor. I love it, it's one of my favorite tobacco mixes. Tastes like a sweeter version of Layalina Raspberry, a little darker, but fully delicious. Most of the juiciness of the mix came from the Starbuzz, I'm thinking it might have thickened up the Pharaohs. So it maintains the flavor of the Pharaohs while making it a little sweeter. I dunno. All I know is that it's great.

I just used the same setup with some Al Waha "After Nine" (chocolate/mint...also the first time I tried this brand and flavor)

At about 1:30 the flavor died, by 1:45 it was pretty much done as I was pretty much getting no smoke at all. I have to say, this is a very odd flavor though since the mint hits first, then for the second half you taste the chocolate....and I couldn't use the windcover for the first 20 minutes or it would get harsh.

Since I forgot to mention the size of the Golden quick-lights I used, it's the 33mm.
