Diameter Really Effects Smoke Thickness?

Recommended Posts

Read that here a lot... Get thicker hose, will get better smoke etc etc.

My personal experience is that smoke thickness depends ONLY on the bowl/heat management. Diameter of the hose can only effect how long you have to inhale, since same volume takes longer to go through as well as how easy it is to inhale, provided of course that other parts of the hookah match.

Thinking about the physics of it, pretty easy. The thinner the hose, the faster the speed of the smoke, the harder the draw OR the longer it takes. Nothing else is effected.

Correct me if im wrong smile.gif

yep ur right. I just like the wider hose because I find it easier to get bigger clouds since you dont feel the resistance as much, however it is so possible to get BIG BIG clouds with a normal hose.

how bout this, you get the same smoke with a small and big hose, but because it takes longer to get a full draw with a smaller hose your lungs absorb more smoke and you release less smoke. thus smaller hoses have less smoke then bigger hoses

think about it like this, what if you taped a drinking straw to the hose port and used that. you wouldnt get very much good smoke and it would be hard to inhale. the wider the hose gauge the less effort you have to pull, and the less heat your coals will emit. if you inhale hard the coals will heat up higher.

Well I got a KM Ultimate and a small phunnel and my smoke thickness grew exponentially, I mean like a LOT. So it was either the new bowl or the new hose, possibly a mix of the two, but now I am able to make cumulonimbus clouds in my apartment. So I am a believer in "the bigger the better."

There's a difference between a thicker hose and a wider hose. the inside diameter could be the same on 2 different hoses but with different thickness on the outside, in which case the volume of smoke would be the same.

you're right you can get the same amount of smoke. However, if your amount of inhalation is the same with both hoses then you will always get smoke with a wider ID hose. Also it feels more natural with a wider ID hose because it's like taking a breath rather than holding your breath with a small hose.

So usually makes the sessions more enjoyable, less taxing on your lungs, and more smoke for every intake wink.gif

sometimes a smaller hose is nicer then a bigger one.. its nice not to open my mouth so much with the smaller hoses.. remember the bigger the diameter of the hose the more you have to open your mouth to stick it in

I don't think you're totally right, because of this:

So, I do think that a wider hose affects the quality of the smoke, for the better

do you put your lips around the tip of the hose? thats what i meant. i like the bigger hoses and how they have a better draw, but i like the smaller hoses because its more natural to put something smaller around your lips (probably because of straws)

Yeah, we have a big black hose, and canon gets lockjaw from time to time...so we switch it up to a smaller hose.

so i guess we all agree that regardless of what hose you have big or small they both will get the job done, just the bigger hose you got the easier and more pleasant the sucking experience is.

That's what my girlfriend says wink.gif
