favorite things to put in your water?

Hello all, my first post, ive been lurking for awhile, but after I bought my first hookah on sunday i thought its finally time to register and chat it up. I smoked many times at friends, and in resteraunts, but nobody usually puts anything with the water. I was wondering what your favorite combos were? I heard that milk makes the smoke way thicker, but im unsure what to try with my Kiwi Al-Almir shisha.

I personally would not go putting milk in your vase. I have never done
it because I dont want the inside of my stem tasting like sour milk
after a couple days. Dont put alcohol. All in all fruits dont add much
flavor if any at all. Juice would make your hookah really sticky and
gunk up. The only thing I put in my hookah is ice. Put a little ice
then fill her up with some water. Many people may think different then
i do but ice is as much as i will put in my vase.

ice is the same with me i put coffee in it once didnt really do a lot but i could tast it

i find that a little activated charcoal is just what it takes to get my water kickin' properly... the tap water here is horrendous

All I use is ice, and a LOT of it! 

 Almost every time I smoke the hookah I take an entire tray of ice
cubes from the freezer and fill the vase with ice up to the line you
would normally fill it with water to. After that I add the water up to
the line as well.
 
 I'd say the only time I don't fill it with ice is I'm on my 2nd
or 3rd bowl of the day and just feeling lazy.. or if I'm using a tiny
travel hookah I usually just use super cold water instead of the "half
pound of ice + water" combo.

 I've tried putting various stuff in my vase over the years, but
most of the time I've found it a real pain in the butt to clean up and
not worth it for the added flavor.

 But if you really want to get crazy (and don't tell anyone I told
you this) you can get a decent bottle of White Zinfandel and fill up
the vase with it (no water, just wine) and then load up a bowl of
Al-Fakher Grape and smoke until you can't see straight


The only other combo I've found to enjoy over the years is letting a
bottle of cola go flat (by shaking it and opening it over and over
until it no longer fizzes when you open it) and then fill up the vase
with the cold flat cola and loading up the bowl with some Cola flavored
ma'assell (I recommend Nakhla or Al-Fakher).


 
 There are the obvious combos of putting apple juice in the base
with Apple ma'assell in the bowl and orange juice in the base with
orange ma'assell in the bowl. But I've found that most of the time
these additions arn't really needed if you find a good strong apple or
orange flavor and don't really add enough flavor to the smoke to make
it worth having to clean out your ultra sticky vase afterwords.


 I tried adding milk to the vase once and ended up with the milk
bubbling up the hose and ruining a perfectly good hose, also forcing me
to smoke a different hookah for about 2 weeks while waiting for the
stench of sour milk to fade from my hookah. So personally, I wouldnt
recommend milk in the base.

 
Also, one last work of advice... NEVER put Wild Turkey 101 in your vase. I learned that one the hard way

Hahahahaha!!! I refuse to even drink Wild Turkey! I was going to keep my mouth shut, but I can't resist now. I like half a bottle of ouzo in the base while smoking apple. Why half a bottle? Well, after getting the classic ouzo buzz while smoking, you need some to shoot!

I like to put ice and a couple wedges of lemon, depending on what I'm smoking.

thanks so much for the input guys. I think i wont try anything too crazy except maybe putting a slice or two of lime with my water (to help sort of enhance the sweet taste)... I've never heard of putting alcohol in the base, can you actually get a 'buzz' from this?

Gatorade can also be good depending on the flavor of the ma'assell and that of the gatorade....the right combination is quite tasty!

Absolutely. Johnny_Z mentioned White Zinfadel. It is good, isn't too harsh and you can go really cheap on this.
