If you're ordering from MNH get the Starlight coconut coals.

+1 on the Starlights, I've exclusivley switched to these coals now. Of course I don't order them from MNH due to finding a great source locally for them, but they easily compare to Coco's at a fraction of the cost. Go for it you won't regret it.

I just grabbed a box of the golden canary japanese coals. I wouldn't recommend them. They cost as much as cocos and 4 of them on my medium phunnel was not giving me the same amount of smoke I get from three cocos.

Those coals are actually great. never break, always burn nicely, no ash, those things turn black and the ash is black, those are the cleanest coals. They may not give tons of heat, but that's perfect for tangiers, also if you just use a wind cover they burn like 3 cocos would. A wind cover is key with Japanese style coals, most Japanese style coals don't give off much heat.

I think the Golden Canarys are the best fitting coal for a phunnel. They are quite smaller then say Cocos, the CH coals, *not sure about starlights. But I agree with what Voski said earlier. They are expensive as you only get like 90 something for 15 bucks and last 1/2 what a coconara does.
