wilarseny
So, to address these issues I've been having with Tangiers clove. I'm a pretty experienced hookah smoker, and I've been using Tangiers for a good long while. I usually keep Passion Fruit and Blueberry around, and other than the first couple times back when I was still figuring out how Tangiers worked, I've never had a problem with any variety of their shisha. I always acclimate, usually for 1-3 days depending on smell and how much I want to try any particular flavor. Regarding clove, I did everything I've heard I'm supposed to. This one in particular was acclimated for approx. 3 days. I've tried packing it in both the small and large phunnels, and a couple times in an Egyptian bowl, with a large hole poked in the center of the shisha as I've been told is the way to do it. No matter what I do, this smoke just itches my throat, and it's not the bit of resistance that occasionally comes with smoking Tangiers; it's a very dry, burning sensation. If I take off the coal and purge, very little smoke is released from the bowl, not nearly as much as when one has a verified cherry inside. I've tried various levels of packing, from overpacking, to just under the rim, and even trying about a half-centimeter below the rim. Nothing seems to help this. I don't think coal management is the issue either. I've used both golden and 3k ql's with this, and even exoticas, with varying amounts of actual coal on top. No matter how much or how little smoke I'm getting on the draw, this burning is still there. The weird part is that I do like clove cigarettes. For whatever reason this particular shisha is just miserable to me. If I can't get it working, y'all'll probably see it come up in the trades section pretty soon. So basically I'm wondering two things. First, have other people had this problem? I recall someone on the other thread saying they'd enjoyed it. Second, what suggestions do people have for fixing this? Edited December 10, 2008 by wilarseny
dafunk5446
Sure hope it isnt a problem for me, since I just got some clove today! Could just be the flavor/you. Some flavors just rip up my throat, while others have no problem with it, everyone is different.

Some people get really bothered by jasmine, for example, and I love it. Thanks for the pm. I just want to make a shout out to the community about mdl and Tangiers, I just posted this a couple hours and they're already on it. Somehow I have a feeling I wouldn't get that level of service from, say, AF.
wilarseny
Update: tonight I tried this again, and it worked much better. Normally I'm a strict adherent to the bullseye method of hole-poking, tonight I tried the fork method and it was way, way better, though after approx. an hour I was left with a smoldering mass. Anyway, this be the threadkill, as it's obviously an issue of my foiling and not the shisha.
