Purging

I've been wondering for over a year now... what's the big deal with purging? Some of yinz guys seem to practically rate a pipe's quality on how well it purges. I rarely get the smoke very harsh at all, and can't even recall a time where I burned it to where I couldn't just take a puff and have the bad smoke gone. Besides, the smoke that's in even the bigger bases amounts to maybe half a good hit's worth.

So who started this nonsense, and why does it matter how well a hookah purges? IMO, if you ever really need to purge it's probably a sign that you just failed at heat management, and should probably learn from your mistake.

I never, ever, ever purge. I think if somebody were to purge, it would be to get stale smoke out of the hookah.

I ritually purge Tangiers before every puff I take... no reason why. Drabin looked at me funny when I was doing it

If the hookah hasn't been hit in a while ill purge it. Sometimes I do it habitually though.

if you dont get your hookah harsh there is no reason to purge. if you look at alot of older hookahs there is no purge valve anyways lol. rating a hookah on how it purges is useless.

I just found that fresh smoke from Tangiers tastes fuller than smoke sitting in the vase for a minute or two.

actually i do use the purge. only when my friends rip the shit out of my hookah and get it really harsh. but on my own never.

i started doing it habitually, and i end up doing it between every puff. never really knew how it started.

For me it's not burning tobacco... once you burn the tobacco it's burned until you let it rest, and then after that it's probably a blake cake.

I purge because at times the flavor chnages; too sweet, too dull, odd, off, maybe soapy...etc. I can detect flavors pretty well, which is why I smoke a tobacco pipe and love to drink excellent beer... but changes in flavor occur sometimes in my sessions. My tobacco isn't burning, but my senses are, so a purge relieves the smoke and lets me get a new, clear flavor.

I have a habit of not hitting it for a while when I am playing videogames. If its been a few minutes it can get really harsh, so I purge it.

Ah, that's never the case for me as I'm usually smoking with friends, although when I do smoke solo I've never had a problem... maybe a slightly bland hit if the smoke's been sitting for a while, but it was never a bother.

I only purge when I get a tickle, I also purge after I move my coals... No real reason, just because ya know... I'm not sure.

It also looks kinna cool when you purge xD

I usually only purge when im at somebodys house and someone is leanin in looking at my hookah like Wow ive never seen one of these before! so I scare the shit outa them with a big puff of smoke in the face! get them every time

the only time i purge is after i ash and rotate my coals.. but it's helpful to have a good purge though just in case you burnt a bowl.

i do it once in awhile, just out of habit. maybe two or three time the hose goes around with my cousins/friends ill purge it. but if its amazingly good then ill never purge lol.

same here....out of a regular smoke sess i might purge once...maximum twice.
