Concern - Mya Saray Hookahs

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am new to writing to forums. Just a breif introductions to how i bumped into my concerns. I were reading reviews on the mya bambino on hookah-shisha.com. I came accross one negative review. the reviewer pointed out that the metal that the decorave bambino shaft was made out of looked soft. So this reviewer tested it with a lead testing kit, and result came postive. I asked hookah-shisha of this concern, and i realsied too late that hookah-shisha removed this comment. I askd them why, they said there was no evidence of this lead metal usage by mya.

So from here i got concerned and me and my friends performed a lead test using Homaxlead testing kit (very easy to use, and reliable aswel) in total me and my friends own 3 bambinos and 2 chics. the mya bambino inside and outside of the grey shaft tested for lead. (tested on 2 different bambinos, same results) Also tested the chic. The outer chrome came out with a negative results, however the sandy brass looking area of the inside shaft tested positive for lead.

We performed the test in controlled enviroment. We used vinegar to clean the area to be tested. we tested and english 10p coin. we tested the chrome inner shaft of the shisha, then we tested the iner and outside shaft.

10p/chrome tube = negative
chic outer = negative
chic inner = positive
bambino outer/inner = positive

im 99% sure my results are correct. we contacted hookah-shisha (as my friends who own the 2 chics ordered from here) we notified them of the results. they questioned us, to how we tested etc to see whether we had made the test up etc. Anyways its been 3 weeks fro now since they have een aware of the concerns.

Hookah-shisha.com have now performed the the tests. A representive called mentioned that the resulsts were "inconclusive" . so i asked doug, what are you going to do now? He mentioned they have been incontact with a lead expert and they are waiting for him to come in to there warehouse. I asked why? Doug said this is because they need a scientist opinion whether smoked inhaled from products which are incontact with lead are harmful, and also to perfrom a risk assessment. So i asked doug, why would you need to do that? someone would only do this if they suspected lead from there results? Doug didnt follow up.

.....Anyways people, me and my friends need your help. We need people to perform lead tests on my saray hookahs to confirm our findings, and spread the word that these hookahs could be dangourous to hookah users. I have no reason to make my findings up. I were just as disspaointed tofind this out as you will be, as i love my mya bambino.

Please perform the tests, an post your results here. I suspect all mya products (inner shaft) contain the poisionous metal LEAD.

PS, one more thing, read this aticle. I know its bias, but just have a read.

thanks once again

I've got a Mya QT that I would be willing to test but I have no idea where to buy lead test kits. Can you buy those at home improvement shops or something?

This is interesting, even if the scientists say lead isn't that bad to smoke with (which I suspect is not safe at all) I try to limit my exposure to poisonous metals as much as possible. wink.gif

if anyone has a mya bambino, or a mya saray hookah shaft that looks dark from inside. have a closer look at the inner shaft once you have smoked the hookah the inner shaft has dried. You will notice there will be a shite residue left. Now i have heard lead can rise to the surface, just like any other metal when exposed to water. such as nikel which goes green, and also metal copper which also goes green. Apperntly when Lead rises to the surface, in may look chalky white. Lead chalk can be extremely dangorous if exposed for a long time. Have a look people. Im not sure on the other mya hookahs whether this happens, but this surely does happen on my mya bamino

leads like asbestos, if its not disturbed its fine to your health.

What qualifies as disturbing it? As in, would hot coals in the tray heat up the top of the stem enough to release some kind of nastay nasty?

see thats the problem. the way to tell would be to get a hit form it and test it in a gas chromatograph but i dont know if they can detect lead.

problem is, my friend raised this issue with mya saray. He asked them what metal mya sarays used in there hookah stems. My friend then said, that we have tested it and the test came positive. Hossam the mya-saray representitive said "you know smoking hookahs bad for you, then why smokie it at all"

We say, we know a big mac is bad for you, but you wouldnt expect to get poisoned from it!!!

Looks like mya saray did not take us seriously.

I would imagine there is still lead in a lot of the solder used on hookahs, especially ones from China. I think most Egyptian stuff is lead-free solder, thats why hookahs break more frequently, perhaps, as lead is a better metal for solder. The lead content from smoking a hookah, using numbers published by wacko anti-hookah people, is incredibly small, its dose would constitute a 50% toxic dose, assuming no removal by your body in like 800 years. Its really, really small. Thats assuming that the lead dosages are fairly consistent between hookahs.
