Voski
Aright so I was cleaning my hookahs today and my Mashal had a lot of green juice come out of it even though I only smoked it two or three times since I cleaned it the last time. So I am pretty sure its rusting. Here are some pics, if I look threw the stem it is all nice and shiny though. What should I do? Can I still smoke it if its rusting like this? Voski
QUOTE (Scoop @ Dec 19 2008, 02:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>nevr dullI have some of that. So I should just clean it and leave it be? I thought it would be more complicated then that. I was about to start calling up metal shops to see if someone would replace the down stem. Voski
like 95% of it came off. There is some left but I got tired of scrubbing it so I'll go back and do it later. The never dull turned like orange/brown then green then black. I wonder if I can put a sacrificial anode somewhere I don't think it would cost a lot. Any idea what metal the down stem is made out of? cotsi95
Did you leave it in the water? It looks like tarnish to me not rust.
Victim026
The brass will tarnish which is the green coming out, I always have it coming out of my Mash'al with no rust in sight. If it's actual rust you'll see it start getting crusty and such but with brass it's doubtful rusting will happen

Hippo_Master
You can prevent it by drying the hookah completely after each use. You can use a brillo pad to clean the downstem right up.
sss8789
dry it after use, keep it in a dry place, wash it before or after you use it... you can really eliminate the tartishing process only minimize it

mushrat
Don't leave it in water when you are done smoking.Other than that short of using a sealant on it not much you can do.

mattarios2
after I smoke I wash it and then give it a quick blow dry, and look down the stem, every time 100% dry. If you do that every smoke or at least at the end of each day or every other day, I'm sure any hookah will last a lifetime.
fifthmanstanding
I can't really tell from the picture's lack of clarity, but that looks very much like tarnished brass. Try some brasso if that's the case.
Voski
It's tarnish I'll bust out the nikon Tommorow for some high res shots
Stuie
i agree with everyone. If it's rust the downstem will look and feel rough. Rust eats away at the metal. Looks just like tarnish.
Sonthert
I'd be of the opinion to just ignore it. Nobody will ever know the brass is tarnishing. I don't think its rust, probably an older brass core KM. Thats a good thing
