sensae
So, I was carrying supplies into my bathroom to pack a bowl, and my tangiers small phunnel fell maybe a foot into my sink. I unwrapped the foil from the last session I had yesterday, and now there's a big chip missing from the top edge of my bowl and there are what looks like hairline fractures running on the inside and outside of the bowl. A friend suggested possibly the glazed layer was cracked and the ceramic underneath is fine. That sound plausible? I'm smoking from it now and it seems fine but damn I'm pissed off. Anyone have experience with chipped bowls? Is it going to explode on me eventually?

erufiku
don't know what to say man... these things are not bullet proof, you have to keep that in mind. they're built really well compared to other bowls though... my phunnel (as well as my mod) survived quite a few falls so far. Dom
it should be fine. i think your friend is right; it's probably just the paint. if the ceramic was cracked, it would crack all the way through. lucky save.
Capt. Morgan
Chipped my phunnel bowl a few months ago. It still smokes just fine.

sensae
Well I generally smoke in my bedroom, and I stir with the stick on my tongs, and then pack with my fingers. It's easier to just pack it next to a sink, clean my hands and tongs, and then bring it back into my room and foil it. The bathroom is next door, the kitchen's on the other side of the house. I'm not terribly surprised, I try to be careful with it but sometimes I can be clumsy and this is probably the third time I've dropped it.
Sonthert
Should be OK. Older bowls are more brittle, because the juice creeps all the way through, under the glaze, from the unglazed inner surfaces...gets real brittle.
