Canon
Ok, when i start my computer it doesnt want to send information to my monitor, i have a vg cable. i took the computer to get it fixed and when the guy at the store started the computer with the same vg cable and moniter that i have at home he was able to get it to work. the only thing that is different is the 2 power cables, but i have 5 power cables and ive been switcing them. sometimes ill see the background to my computer but nothing else. Ive tried at least 30 times restarting my computer and replugging the cable on both the monitor and the cpu. if anyone has any suggestions or knows why it wont work at home but will work in the repair shop please help
Scoop
do you have any bent pins in your vga cable? i dont think the power cables are a source of the problem. if your monitor indicates power then its definitely not the cable.

mustang_steve
sounds like you're not plugging it in securely. Some folks are too gentle with cables, some are too vigorous with their cables. For a VGA/DVI cable, you should gently push it in all the way...if the computer's connector is not totally engulfed by the shield of the plug you are connecting, then pull it back out and check for a bent pin, then reinstert until it does. Then screw down both screws securely with your thumbs (this should be rather easy to do).For power plugs, they should go in securely...if they wiggle, consider a new power cord. You can get them dirt cheap at the right places.www.monoprice.com is a good place to get cables for minimal buck. Their shipping has gone up a bit though. mustang_steve
If you can see the desktop, then the monitor works...it may be a general PC issue if other monitors do this as well.Check monitor, then video card, then software (OS, etc).
