Ohh tombeik, yeah ok. You do smoke Tombeik with coals directly on top... but Zag. is actually a just a black style molasses product... if you put coals directly on it you would only get the taste of ash, coal, burning wood, and the coals would go out very quickly.

Nakhla Zag. is more like AF Soft Black, not Tombeik. Zag is sweet and has a strong dark tobacco flavor, tombeik is a harsher smoke that is very hard to inhale... it's meant to be smoked more like a cigar. Zag is emant to be much easier on the palate, and better for after dinner smoking or with a meal, as the tobacco taste won't linger onr taste buds like a cigar/cig/pipe/tombeik would. Tombiek also has a similar taste to a cigar. There's a method that goes into smoking tombeik, which includes soaking the leaves so they don't burn so and you can actually get the taste of the tobacco.

Nakhla isn't making a tobacco that should be "smoked traditionally", they are making a flavor that is based mroe on a tobacco instead of a fruit. That's the only difference. Tombeik is a different league.

Zag cannot be enjoyed as it should if you smother it with coals and no foil.. it can't take that amount of heat at all. Do you smoke Nakhla fruit flavors like that? No way, and it's no different for Zag.

Anything with a sweet-base, a moassel (or an variation of that word) is not meant to be torched by coals, that's why it has the sweet base along with the tobacco. Edited by Hippo_Master

Unfortunately you don't know what your talking about with the Zag, or at least have been misinformed. It's designed to be smoked from an Iranian bowl, which means no foil and coal directly on top of it. Of course you can smoke it in an egyptian bowl or a syrian bowl but TRADITIONALLY it is smoked in an iranian head with direct coal contact.

No that's Tombeik. Zag and Tombeik are 2 separate things. Ig uess if you can smoke burning honey and tobacco and not die it's just fine. mellow.gif

Don't worry I'm quite aware of what we are talking about, Zag is meant to be smoked without foil with direct coal contact. So far your the only person who says otherwise which if you take the odds probably means your wrong. I used to serve 5-6 bowls of Zag a day when I was working at the last hookah bar, all were either to Egyptians, Iraqi's, or Iranian's here to train with our airforce and they all smoked it without foil. I'm gonna go ahead and guess that if the people who are from the middle east want to smoke it that way, that it's more then likely the right way to do it.

Bumperoony.

I just picked up some Zag and will NOT be smoking it the traditional way, but will be following the tutorial linked to earlier in the thread. Foil too lol.

Anyone tried this since then? I have 250g so I'm hoping I like it. I do love me natural tobacco taste. And yeah it's dry as hell.

I love me some Zag. The Zag I have at home is moist and sticky. I add a little glycerine and a little honey to it and smoke it with foil... or I mix AF Pipe, Vanilla, Nakhla Chocomint, Havana Pipe, or any kind of Banana shisha to it.

Has anybody ever smoked Zaghloul Lite before? I've been wondering if there is any difference in consistency or flavor.

ive tried it. its way better that other plain shishas. its bold, smooth, and mildly sweet depending on how much honey you have.

the drier you keep it the ritcher your tobacco will taste. if its more wet it will take time to crisp up the tobacco making it lighter. i find treating it like tangiers wotks best. in a small phunnel.

Did i help?

absolutely you did, thanks Fluffy. I'm going to use agave nectar instead of honey but other than that I'll try your suggestions.

Be aware, getting the Zagh flavor out of your hose/hookah is like getting boll weevils out of a cotton patch. Foil's fine. Foil's necessary for Maasel, but optional with Zagh. Remember Sonthert's tautology "Whatever works for you, works for you." Try it with and without foil...see what you like better. Personally I like foil on Zagh best.

I'm smoking Zaghloul now. It is weaker than a cigarette. I can't even inhale cigarettes without coughing and easily I inhale zaghloul. Never put coals on it, never.

its no stronger than any other nakhla (exept zaghloul lite) crazy.gif but when you put coals directly on it cashes out alot faster becuse of the higher amont of heat. this gives you more nicotine per hit.

HOLY goodness. I'm smoking the zag right now, and am more buzzed than have ever been.

i must say as the bowl is nearing its end it tastes like the outside of a slightly burned marshmallow lol, but the session overall was successful, like it much better than Desi Murli.

How am i gonna smoke 250 of this? i might die of buzz...

worth trying out if only to experience a more traditional shisha

It tastes fine Liquid, more mild than I thought it would. If you have ever smoked cigars or briar pipes it'll be right up your alley, you wont get very large clouds though unless I did something wrong. I reccomend staying hydrated during the session. And I added glycerine and agave sine I'm sure you've noticed this stuff is very dry.

So the killer? This buzz has given me a horrible headache and I can't sleep now...yous guys weren't kidding about this stuff.

.07 nicotine level. Ouch.

I think adding unflavored molasses to this would be the most beneficial*. All this glycerin and honey/agave talk, when you could just add some good ol' thick molasses and have the best session of your life!

Still don't know why one would want to smoke without foil. wink.gif Edited by Hippo_Master
