i've been smoking hookahs (shishas) for a while in new york in some places in queens and brooklyn

so instead of spending either 8$ or 16$ in some brooklyn places i decided to buy my own

cost of items was like 40$ but shipping 35$

did I overpay or not? is it a good starter kit?

Honestly, I would have went through MNH and gotten a QT/Bambino with starlight cocos and 50g's of Nakhla or AF. Would have been cheaper and leagues above Soex and that mini hookah.

You should be able to get a decent smoke though.

Have you had soex before? If your not looking for herbal shisha try some Al Fahker or Starbuzz.
Most online vendors have discount codes for free shipping or 15% off

So I would say only thing overpaid was the shipping.
At $75 you coulda got a mya qt and a phunnel with some al fahker shipped, plus a little extra to spend on coals.

Honestly. the pipes alright, not great, but won't last long, and may cause you problems. Bad call on the Soex in my opinion, the sugar cane based shisha is hard to get past for most people. The coals aren't my fav, but the bowl is pretty good. I used mine for quite a while still got it.

I agree with QM, a bambino or QT would have been a stellar order.

no biggy, just figured if it didnt ship you could cancel, not a bad order by any means, coulda been better for the same price though.

good starter setup i guess, then move up to something nicer in the future.

next time just come here before you place an order, not after you place it.

I suggest you go to the Vendors section of hookah forum to research all of the different vendors prior to purchasing. There are so many good online vendors that carry a wide variety of quality stuff for good prices.

aw man i made the same mistake a few months ago(before i was a member)..not trying to be mean, but i can relate to that purchase: 10in hookah and a bunch of soex.
no matter how well i prepared the shisha/coals/water... whatever i did, it always smoked like shit. a teensy drop of ash gets in there and you're coughing for days - no flavor, barely any smoke..

then you were doing something wrong with your setup, even if the hookah is no good, as long as it is 100% sealed you should get a decent smoke, like QM already stated.

actually after my first few uses of the thing, i found this forum because i knew i needed help. even though i read for hours (used the search function ), followed everyone's advice, and changed how i was setting up, it was still terrible.

i have friends who have the shittiest hookahs and they smoke fine, the actual pipe won't screw up the smoke volume and taste unless 1 - it is dirty which blocks the real flavor of the shisha or 2 - there is a leak which kills your smoke volume.

If it is sealed and clean, it will give you at least a decent session no matter what hookah it is.

it all comes down to the packing of the bowl and heat management as many people on HF have said hundreds of times.

Done and Done.
