Advice On A Big-ish Order For Newer Products

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I've recently returned my nargile into use after about 18 months' dormancy. My classic Mya hose is feeling narrower and narrower with all these KM and Nammor types floating around. I also like the long handles. My long-used Nour coals seem to be ashing like a bitch, as well as dying quickly, in comparison to the various newer coconut coals I've read reviews of. Finally, in the few months before packing everything up, I did get some Tangiers and rather liked it, but since I have a Lebanese pipe, I've had to resort to using a foil-based fake funnel.

Questions:

I think I've decided on getting a Razan (the various postings imply they're more durable than Nammors). However, I like the fact that the Grand Washable hose has every component fixed. I also really, really like the look of the Omar hose from Hookah Company. Can anybody chime in on these?

I also think I've decided on Starlight coals. Coconaras seem the best, but seem very overpriced. It strikes me that Starlights have received better reviews than either Exotica or Chron, and for the price, are a worthy alternative to CN. Is this a fair assessment?

As for the bowl, my only real option for a proper funnel would be a custom made, Lebanese-fitting glass head from MN. Is it worth the money? What about various mods? I don't really smoke that often, one or two times a week max, although it's always with friends for long sessions.

Thanks for your help!

It's my uneducated assumption that for the price of a custom glass phunnel from MNH you can buy a Mya QT and a small phunnel.

I have 3 Razans and have never had a problem with them. I'm on my third box of Starlight coals, and I think I'm going to use CH coals from now on. I don't really have a reason... I just feel that they're a bit better.

The Omar is not a bad hose, but not the greatest either. I would personally pass it up for a KM or possibly a Razan. Really nice looking hose though, probably one of the better looking ones in person.

As for the bowl, definitely a Tangiers Phunnel. That's the only way to go.

MNH Glass Phunnels are great, but I don't know why they would make it smaller than regular Tangiers Phunnels. We all got used to those, then the smaller MNH Phunnels come in and its like something is missing.

I'm not really in the market for a new nargile, I'm rather fond of mine. Have you tried the CH coals, and were they the instant or the normal kind?

What drawbacks are there to the Omar, is the pull not as good?

Also, what's up with the MN Jet bowls, compared to their standard glass funnel?

If your hookah doesn't have a screw on top it won't work. However as mentioned before Eric @ Tangiers makes a ceramic bowl adapter that will work for what you need, as far as I've heard he's the only place to get the thing so give him a pm or call his lounge. The CH coals aren't bad, but the Starlight Coconut coals at MNhookah are a much better deal and work much better as well. As for the hose situation I would say maybe try the Grand Washable, they've gotten some decent reviews so dar so I think it would work well. As said before also, for the money the tangier's phunnel bowls are the best deal, the glass phunnels are nice but extremely expensive and the glass is quite finkicky heat wise from what I've experienced.

By screw on top, what do you mean? On mine, the bowl fits into a piece which screws into the stem.

the tray is held in place between the screw-in bit and the stem, it doesn't wobble around like on most other hookahs

I'd recommend a KM hose as I have quite a few and love them to death but a Razan/Namor/Grand would serve you very well also. As for the bowl, a small Phunnel should be a requirement for any hookah enthusiast.

I also have an mnh jet w/ screen and their only drawback is the small size. Putting my usual 4 coconaras up on the screen produces an amazing clean smoke but has me way to nervous to make it my go-to bowl. Good luck with your purchases!
