Heat Management For Wet Tobacco

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, just have a quick question, hope you can help me.
I usually smoke Nakhla almost exclusively but there's a new tobacco in my local store called Original Bahraini Molasses. Very wet tobacco compared to nakhla, had three smokes so far and they weren't bad but not great clouds either, took some time to get the bowl going where nakhla gets clouds on the second or third hit for me. Plus rotating the coals too much seems to cause it the burn quickly. Since i don't want to waste more of the tobacco experimenting, thought you guys might have some advice.
Anybody have any tips holding into account that:
-It's very moist, as in drip down the stem moist.
-Very finely shredded.
-I use a deep, unglazed bowl. (I have been leaving some space between the foil and the tobacco)
-I use 2 Coco coals on opposite sides of the bowl

Thanks in advance!

1. Forget this rubbish about leaving space between foil and tobacco. PACK PACK AND PACK AGAIN!
2. Use a little more coal.
3. Use a windcover as a heat regulator. Put it on for the first few minutes to really get the tobacco going and
take it off when it's going good ect ect.
4. Pack some more tobacco.

Thanks, going to try this right now. You're right i think, the top layer will get charred regardless, might as well pack the hell out of the bowl.

That's basically the idea... you may have a minute or two of 'burning' but work through it.
Once the top layer is crisped then it acts as a protective barrier anyways.

Also consider that original hookah smoking used to just place the coals
straight into the tobacco - no screen or foil.

OK I always leave a bit of space between the foil and the baccy when I smoke AF. yesterday I packed a phunnel right to the top and after a while the juices from collected on the foil and ruined the bowl... Had to re-pack it.

If you're getting wispy but harsh smoke you should pack less.
