Willywonka
so i smoked a few bowls in my hookah today which is very old and beat up and noticed that the smoke was thick but had a funky taste. i started out with a bowl pakced way too high with 2 coals and it wasnt harsh but i got buzzed wayy too hard so i repakced it about half full and put 1 coal on top and it was better but still wierd taste. so heres a few things i know i need to do1 clean the whole thing i put fresh water in but i have a feeling theres gunk in the stem and hoses2 get a new bowl i have a large bowl on it (its a 3 hoser idk model) but the bottom of the bowl is broken off it still works but i think i will replace it with one from the shop cuz theyr 3 bucks.. i checked and it didnt burn the grommet but i feel it will smoke better with a proper bowl3 get natural coals i used af strawberry regular which i couldtaste in the smoke but there seemed to be a coal taste which i think i can fix by upgrading from quicklite to natural is there anything else i should do for a better smoking experiance next time? other than taking smaller fewer hits is there a way i can minimize the buzz? like packing a smaller bowl? because for me the buzz is ok but it came on way to fast and gave me a hadache this time. Bulldog_916
New hose would serve you well also. Use a different tobacco if you're getting buzzed too hard on that stuff. Try Starbuzz or AF or Tangiers Lucid. Those would be the three I would give a shot to.
joelhookah
First off, go out and buy some brushes online or at a local shop and run them through the stem. Get new hoses. You cant cut down on the buzz by packing less, but you may not have had your coals fully lit, that will cause a headache.

modisess
actually, running the brush through the stem after ever session isn't really necessary. i clean my hookah with a brush after every dozen sessions. getting some natural coals and a new hose is your best bet. Zinite
IF you want the best taste, clean it after every session. You don't have to scrub it with a brush and alcohol/lemon juice after every session, but running hot water through it and drying it thoroughly before putting it away will do wonders. I clean my hookahs really well about once a week (Wash with hot water, soak in alcohol rub, scrub with brushes, scrub with baking soda, add lemon juice, rinse with hot water, fill vase with hot water and drop in some Efferdent overnight), but otherwise I just rinse it with hot water and scrub the bowl with dish soap and a copper pad.You also might want to look at purchasing a washable hose. These hoses are lined with a garden hose material on the inside, so you can rinse it with water every couple weeks. The washable hoses are called Nammor or Razan hoses. There are also new ones in the market called Grand Washable Hoses. These hoses also have a larger inner diameter than regular hoses, making it much easier to pull. If you dont pack enough, you will burn the bowl too easy
jezter6
I'd recommend a good soaking in denture cleaning tabs or oxyclean as well. A few hours of that really brought my hookahs back to life.
