Fixing My Base - Nontoxic Adhesive?

Recommended Posts

I broke the base of my Mya QT and I need to fix it. Before you tell me to consider buying a new one, yall should know it's only a small crack which leaks a tiny amount. I want to reattach the broken-off piece of glass from the base and I figure it ought to work like new when I do that.

My question is thus: What kind of caulk/adhesive should I use? It will have some, albeit minimal, interaction with the water (because there is a small leak) and I'm concerned about toxicity. I looked through my garage and found some urethane based adhesive. I know urethane fibers are somewhat toxic but i doubt this will melt or erode too much. Is it safe to use? should I find some silicone caulk to patch it up?

Yalls help is appreciated. Thanks

It's not as much about reattaching the glass piece as it is about sealing the leak. If I use 1 product for both it would have to be type 1 water resistant like my polyurethane glues are, but again I encounter uncertainties about toxicity. The best thing I can find, which says it is non-toxic, is Titebond III wood glue which is FDA approved for direct food contact as well. However, while it is the type of adhesive I'm looking for, it is still wood glue. Worth a shot?

I know I can go to the hardware store and ask, but I thought I'd get somewhere asking here to see if anybody has done this before, specifically with a hookah.

most epoxy is safe once it dries, as is superglue, aquarium safe silicone is another good idea.

Amazing goop is what I used to fix my KM base when it had a crack all the way down the side and the bottom broke completely off. AT least that's what I used to seal it. I used gorilla glue to put it back together initially. And both are water proof once dry so it's up to you what you want to do.
