How Do You Pack Your Bowl?

Recommended Posts

lately i have been experimenting with different amounts of shisha and coals and such and noticed that unlike most of the videos i see on youtube and such i get the best smoke when i pack a very small amount of shisha just enough to cover the bottom of the bowl this way it roasts and does not char nearly as easily as whn u pack it to the brim when i fill it up it gets harsh and gives me a huge headache but i am a hard hitter so maybe this is why i need a bigger distance from foil/coal to shisha??

oh i guess that is interesting. more interesting is the different ways people smoke shisha. like you said, you are a hard hitter.

are you getting thick and flavorful smoke? have you tried packing a full bowl and lowering the heat? In my experience, it takes a lot of heat to extract the flavor and i just cant imagine hot air (your method) heating up the shisha enough to get the best smoke.

I just can't see that working at all I'm afraid...

Allmost all tobacco's that I've smoked (and i've smoked a few) prefer the bowl to be fluffed and packed high!

Foil touching tobacco not a problem either.

Consider that back in the day coal was just plopped straight onto the tobacco anyways!

ive plopped a coal right on top before and it gives clouds but it gets harsh fast. the next sesh i will pack a fat fluffy bowl and double foil it and let u know..and yes of coarse i get clouds like that the best i ever get actualy admitedly the bowl doesnt last as long as many folks i hear from id say 30 mins max but thats with a few people hitting it bu i can guarantee from my experiance when the shisha touches the foil i might get 1-2 good hits and then BLEH nasty burn tab

A little bit of tobacco touching the foil isn't a problem honestly. You just need to use less coals, and fluff up the tobacco in the bowl. Use less but bigger holes, this helps the airflow and let the coals heat up the tobacco better and more even.

lol what do you mean back in the day. most people in the middle east smoke it that way. I just got back from Jordan and they laughed at me for smoke mu'essal lol. but i also pack mine high and fluff it in, im not so sure about barely putting any in. how big are your clouds?

Traditionally (ie. "back in the day") they used smoldering camel dung (so i guess they werent so picky about flavours). they put it directly onto the tobacco. so, all this talk about keeping a space between foil and tobacco is just a modern day phenomenon

im a hard hitter that usually smokes with other people, so the tobacco tends to burn pretty fast. when i pack the bowl i try and leave the tobacco atleast 2mm away from the top of the bowl (mya standard bowl) and use the shiny side up with the foil.

ugh i have some friends that a hard hitters, annoys the hell out of me, take your time and just take a nice long slow hit, trust me it will be the same thing if not better. as for bowl packing, not sure the rest of your set up, what coals are you using and how many, i think you need more shisha and less heat.

same here...annoys the shit out of me that time and time again i have to tell them they're not trying to suck a golf ball thru a garden hose. usually ends up in a short session and wasted tobacco. BoomSmilie_anim.gif

see thats why if they arent paying attention you unplug the hose or blow air into the other end then tell them they are too drunk.

I've had people blow air when I'm pulling and that is the most annoying thing ever, even more than hard-hitting and wasting my shisha. My wife thinks it's HILARIOUS to do though

Some gal at a party last night filled her nice two-hoser (looked modern) literally 1.5" above the rim, then STAMPED it down...

It typically leave a fluffed SMALL space between the plate (no foil lately) so I am cooking, not burning the shi sha.

Or, I flip the plate if its to the top so I don't char the top layer..monster smoke (its more about the heat anyway).
