Exotica Coals Vs Everything Else..

Recommended Posts

I love the Exotica...I even bought a little camp stove to light them better..I just fire two sides high for 2 minutes each, and the camp stove gets it piping hot.

To break them I use small tree trimmers, like $5 at a home depot. I can get them into 1/2" chunks for a pumpkin hookah.

The only other coals I've used are:

Crappy quick lights

Silver-tab quick lights...which aren't Awful I guess.

Someone told me natural lemon-wood coals stink up your house on lighting...

give golden canarys a try (give off low heat so you may need to use 1 extra coal than your used to)

could try coco's a lil expensive though, so are the golden canarys

Also try starlight cocos from mnhookah.com

Chron Hookah coals from hookahjohn.com

there are a few others people enjoy but give those a try and see what you like best, buy the sample packs, usually 20 coals or so for a few bucks.

Also check the coal review section for reviews of all diff. types of coals

finger coals - Nours are great but ash like a mofo
jap coals - canary's are your best bet
natural coals (the ones that look like wood chunks) - al fakher
coconut coals - coconaras suck, i did like CH instant coco's though

but IMO, Exoticas are #1

+1 on the Canary brand Japanese coals...I use them nearly exclusively. I like that they give off less heat, which makes heat management easier with heat sensitive brands, like Tangiers. In my experience Exoticas and Cocos are too intense...and Exoticas too smell when lighting-again IMO.

I'll have to try the Chron quick-lights...eventually.

I've bought two boxes, and they smelled and tasted pretty bad. I couldn't handle it, so they sat in my closet for a long time until I threw them out when I moved to a new apartment. I've tried a lot of different finger coals with similar results.

I prefer natural wood coals, although they can be a pain in the ass sometimes because I waste a lot of chunks and have to smash them with a hammer. They're cheap and I've never had an issue with them when it comes to taste or smell, though.

I recently picked up some Hypnosis Japanese style coals, and some Coconaras. Both are tasteless and scentless as far as I can tell, and

For natural coals, I'm a big fan of exoticas. They are my coal of choice. I've used coconaras and CH cocos, but I still like exoticas better.

As far as quicklights, I recently tried the CH instant light coco coals and was REALLY impressed. They seriously are ready in under a minute...quite a few of mine were ready to go in less than 30 seconds, as they errupted into flames! I've used jap quicklights, golden coals and a few no-name brands, and I'm liking the CH instant lights the best. I'm definately gonna buy more.

i personally hate exoticas and have been sick to the stomach almost everytime i have used them

You may be allergic to them, seriously. They make my wife sneeze when I light them, but after they are lit she's fine. Go figure. Allergies can be wierd.

Exoticas- a year ago, I loved them and they were my goto coal, didnt think I could get much better. The last few months, havent even ordered them. Last few boxes I have gotten, the coals vary in hardness from stick to stick, some are fine, some bend when lighting, and some just completly shatter on the stove... not my idea of a good coal.

Natural Bird Coal- I've yet to get pics of these up, or review them, but they are really good natural coals I get from a middle eastern store/sunoco. They are 7 bucks a kilo, and burn for a long time and dont fall apart on me. Only downside is they cylinders, so they like to roll around some on the bowl

Al Alwael- I love these coconut coals and as of right now they are my goto

CH- Love both the instant light and natural, get those on every few orders.

Coconaras are good. And if you can find them cheap belgian natural disks were pretty good too.
Never had a good experience with exoticas...they always splintered on me.. Edited by indian_villager

Coconaras and Nour are my go to coals. Coconaras are my first choice because they haven't sparked or exploded on me while smoking inside. As backups I use 3 Kings QLs, Abu Haithim or Golden Canary, or Easy Lites. I use Exoticas if I am smoking outside. I like the idea of Exoticas but they leave off a strong odor when they are being lit and they splinter when fully lit.

I love exotica coals. Coconaras are too premium of a price for too little of a return. For coconut coals, the Al Awa'el Coconut coals on HC are damn good for a good price. It's really a matter of preference and experience. Some love coconaras but have never tried exoticas so they arent in a great position to comment on exoticas. They'll give you their preference. Be it CH coconut coals, golden canarys, whatever.

Try a box of exoticas. You only have 8 bucks to lose and you might like them. I personally do.
