How much time can be stored in such containers?
[/quote]

Unfortunately we do not yet have an equation that will successfully convert time into volume

THOSE.

i used to use the zip-loc containers and rubbermaid tupperware and the store-brand but i could only use them once. no matter what, they always seemed to stain, soak up juices, and would always smell like the last tobacco that i stored in there.

so i moved to the pyrex. it's more expensive, but i'm completely confident that i won't have to deal with losing juices, staining, or odor transfer after i finish off the stuff that's in them.

i won't go back.

Do you have any problems with smells getting into the lids?

After several discussions with Eric about the effect on excessive air inside storage containers, I have started to put the tobacco into a large plastic bag, and then into a plastic tub. It allows me to open up the bag and stir it up as much as necessary, and then cinch it back down to keep the air out during storage. So I kind of end up with a Al Fakher type thing going on. It really seems to help with the flavors staying stable, because Tangiers doesn't use artificial stabilizers. Which is of course part of why we love it so much. But it does prove a bit more of a challenge to keep the flavors stable under storage conditions.

the only issue with that process is the need for acclimation every time the bag is opened sorta. I'm assuming that a large plastic bag (zip closed, I'm guessing) and the plastic tub aren't truly airtight, so it should still be constantly acclimating.

However, if you use true airtight/watertight containers, you're locking out all the enviromental factors. When you (or more precisely, I) open the containers, half the time they go into shock and fall out of acclimation. I'm assuming the change isn't as drastic, because usually 1-2 hours is sufficient to acclimate the tobacco. But, it's still a slight inconvenience.

In the lounge, the containers are nowhere close to airtight so, it is my opinion that they are constantly exposed to the air and thus, they continually acclimate. It's one of the reasons why I believe, it's ok to leave your tobacco out overnight or even up to a week. Some flavors do take a hit (such a cherry), but most are stable enough to last a couple of days out in the open.
