Wog Boy
Ay every one , im new to hookah and this forum also, registered 5 mins ago! I smoked some shisha at a party a while ago and ever since then I had to get my own, so I ordered my hookah today, I got a few questions as to dos and donts . From what iv read, the coal u use makes a difference for your hookah? the reason I ask is I found some coals in the cupboard, tho they are for religious purposes (Im Greek), will these still work? I havent got my camera with me so I cant really take a pic, they are about the size of an australian 10c coin, they light pretty quickly but do give off a strong smell. My other question is the tabacco that comes in small boxes any different to the ones in tubs? any other tips would be greatly appreciated.Thnx, James Edited January 11, 2009 by Wog Boy
SilentBob
coals make a definite difference, some coals ash extremely fast, some are hotter than others, etc. read thru the reviews on this site and you can get an idea of what's best. the 50g vs 250g tobacco *shouldn't* make a difference, but sometimes you just get a bad buy. tips: heat management, good air flow, get a phunnel bowl

A phunnel bowl isn't really necessary at first, but it'll be a good investment once you are more familiar with hookah. Learn how to pack the tobacco in the bowl properly and learn how to control the heat you put on the bowl. Generally there's no difference between the small packs of tobacco and the ones in the tub. Although I have noticed that with some brands, the small packs are drier than the one that comes in the tubs.Yep, coals makes a huge difference, coals are generally divided into two types. Instant lights, which I assume is what you are using now, and natural coals.Natural coals are definitely a must if you want to get a good smoking session. Most instant light charcoal imparts a chemical flavor into the smoke (especially the crappy instant light charcoals), natural coals won't do this.Oh yeah, and welcome to the forum!Edit : Forgot to add about the coals, natural coals needs a continuous heat source to get it to light all the way through, which means that the coal is red hot all around. Also, with the instant light coals you are using, let them burn through first before placing them on your bowl. Wog Boy
thnx , I havent actually used the my instant lights yet cause im not sure if these should be used, only way to find out is to use em when my hookah arrives... these are made in greece, light instantly and claim they go for 30 mins or so... but when i was smoking with my friends that night im pretty sure we did use instant lights too cause we just used a lighter, lasted a good 30 mins before we would change, we hit like 3-4 different flavours tho never had any complaints with the coal taste. the coals need to be red right thru to be put on??.. or just heated n red on one side? I never got to see them set it up tho im sure it aint rocket science
