CloudMonster
Hey HF I'd like to know from anyone who has any knowledge as to how clean most hookah establishments tend to keep their equipment, because a couple of nights ago I went to a hookah bar and smoked only one bowl and then bought some coals and shisha for myself when I was done. I keep all of my hookah equipment at my house very clean and after smoking only a couple of bowls there I passed out and woke up to find that I had vomited while I was unconscious and I was very sick for the rest of the night. I have absolutely no history of medical problems and I didn't smoke anywhere near what I have in the past so the thought that there may have been something very wrong with the equipment that I had used at the hookah bar that night was one of the things that came to mind. Thank you for any input that you can give me on this subject.
slingham
Sounds like it might have been from the coals not being lit all the way or something. I've felt sick before from both to much heat, and the coals not being properly lit. That's my guess.
freezerburn456
that happens at my bar sometimes. most of the time its because the person has not had enought to drink/eat that day. it can also be because of coals not being lit enough, or you have been smoking tobacco with a higher nicotine content than you are used to. normally it has nothing to do with the cleanliness of the equipment
cotsi95
Well we clean out hookahs after every use. MOST hookah bars do but there are some that just clean them all at the end of the night. It sounds like you didnt eat much that day or like everyone else said the coals werent lit. Where they using quick lights?
inino
sounds like poor ventilation, mixed with a dirty hookah and hose. unless you went in there dehydrated then that could be it too.
fineout
did you eat before and drink water during? take breaths and dont just inhale smoke the whole time, you probably either got CO poisoning or nicotine poisoning.
AJW
Ewww, what did the vomit look like? Was it all chunky? Cause if it was, that would be really nasty. In any event, it probably wasn't about the cleanliness. I feel sick after a long smoke session of anything (cigars, hookah, basically anything except soex and NHT)Probably just too much smokin' without enough break in between. Voski
Did you check to see how they were lighting the coals?
Sariél
I don't think you can blame it on the lounge. I think anything wrong there would have manifested before you got home and smoked two more bowls. It sounds more like bad ventilation at home, dehydration, smoking on an empty stomach, or maybe you just shouldn't have had eaten the sushi from the Gas n' Go. mushrat
how many bowls are "couple of bowls "? So you smoked 1 at the place and 2 more when you got home and you wonder why you got sick??
Scoop
dirty hookah and hose dont make you pass out. nicotine poisoning can make you throw upcarbon monoxide poisoning can make you throw uplack of oxygen can make you pass out
CloudMonster
Well from the sound of things it could easily have been something as simple as a lack of oxygen. I had been eating and drinking plenty of water all day so I doubt it was a lack of that, but I was in my garage smoking with a lot of other people who were smoking hookah and cigs as well for quite some time without much of a break. I may have just smoked too much because even though I have had that much in the past it had been about a month since I had smoked anything at all. I think I'll probably just have to pace myself from now on if this is the case. Thank you for all of your help I really appreciate it.

AKammenzind
Yeah, I'm with poor ventilation and/or rapid smoking. We had a 5-hookah ( 2xthree hoser egyptians, one 1-hose egyptian, a 4-hose homemade plus a pumpkin) party around thanksgiving and several hours in we had a chick who kept passing out, and a few others (myself included) who had horrible headaches and queezyness due to all the smoke, plus the coals lighting up. If it was a busy night at the hookah bar, then it was probably something similar that happened to you.
