But I wanted to get it out there so that some of you could give it a try if you have time. What you will need for the way I set it up:1) Phunnel bowl- prefer medium or large2) Scallimod3) crushed and tumbled glass like you get in a craft store. It is like aquarium gravel, but glass. They tumble it to take the sharp edges off. I don't recommend trying to crush up glass guys. Bad things seem to happen and the stuff I'm talk about is readily available. People put it in vases for decorative bs.4) two 33mm Three Kings5) I used Starbuzz Mango and my heat concentrator on topOkay. I loaded the bowl to about 1/4" from the top sort of loose which is normal for me.Layer on the crushed glass a little over the rim and thenpack down enough to flatten it out level across the top. No glass should be over the mod though.For the foil I did it like I always do; two sets of holes maybe the size of a quarter to where when you sit the coals on the air pulls directly under them.Fire that bad boy up as usual and put a concentrator on if you have one.Theory: glass is not a good conductor, but it heats really quick. It also cools quick. My idea was that the problems with burning would be easier to avoid and hope to get a bit better heat. I expected it to take more heat just because of the glass buffer.What I didn't expect though is that it smokes alot better and has more flavor than usual. What I'm thinking is also happening is that as the heat routes through the glass it is dispersing across more area once it hits the shisha. So what would normally be too much heat seems to make for a more efficient heating.Give this a try guys. I know it may sound like bs but I'm not jerking you chains on this. I think that those that try it will be as floored as I am with the results.I will make the vid in case my wording here is not getting what I'm doing across well. As usual post your thoughts pro or con and see what you guys think about it. You can still burn it so keep that in mind... at least the shit ain't stuck to the foil if you do though. oh, and ARRRRRRRRR!!!!!! There was some stuck on the foil all nasty looking and I almost always have at least a little on the foil when done. That's because I can't get a good smoke if the shisha is not real close. So the Scallisquirrel starting running on the wheel. I thought it would sure be neat to make that shit stop happening. Putting something in between it came to mind. But WTF to use? I go through some really dumb ideas like ball bearings (it was a better one than some though) But then I got to thinking that something that did not conduct may work better. So glass was the first thing to come to mind. THen I look over at my bamboo plant and said "you're giving some of that shizit up beOtch!!!" ARRRRR!!!! Worth playing around with. If you already have a good system for setting up Tangs though I'm not sure I would bother. The way he designed it to smoke is very unique and when you get it right it is pretty hard to beat IMHOI love it but I can't smoke it long because the nic buzz is too much for my candy-ass Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

After I smoked a bowl I got a good look and other than discoloration the glass is in the same form as it started. Silica is really bad shit. I've done sandblasting a long time ago with silica sand and was always extra careful with dust protection. This does not appear to be an issue to me. Notice glass blowers never wear resperatory protection. Of course they are not sucking (that would be a whole other hazard ) but whatever is in the air around them is definately going in their lungs. ashes87 Posted January 14, 2009 Share Posted January 14, 2009 Very unique idea, and I did watch the vid and have been reading all the comments in here, and it takes a lot of heat to melt glass but it does also cool quickly if it does not have consistent heat, so the glass melting and breathing in silica particles looks to be a very low risk.Then again, we are all risking our health by smoking anyway, so we just roll with the punches and keep going. Think about glass casserole pans or glass pots or hell anything glass that get near a high heat. They use them on stoves and ovens which are hot enough to light up the coals we use, I'm sure the glass is just fine under a cooler temperature of the coal.Scalli, genius. Pure genius. I didn't get by to check on smaller sized glass because well.... me gots sleepy and could not even get out a little arr!!!
