SilentBob
So I left my Nak DA to get rid of the anise flavor and the first two bowls had nearly no anise flavor at all. Come back the next day and bam, all anise flavor. Any ideas here? Should I just leave it out 24-7? I absolutely hate anise flavor and was so happy nakhla didnt taste like it at first. I've been smoking Nakhla DA for almost 7 years, and recently was the first time I stored it in a glass, gasketed container. I smoked a bowl after opening the original packaging, then stored it in the sealed container. That bowl was normal - DA always has some anise flavor. A week or so later, I had another bowl out of the sealed container - it reaked of anise...when smoked, it was like smoking licorise instead of DA. I'm thinking of moving it back into a container that's not so tightly sealed to see if that changes anything. I suppose that it could be humidity related. Hippo_Master
Let it sit out! The licorice gets so over-powering. Edited January 16, 2009 by Hippo_Master

thecyrax
Nakhla DA and the Anise flavor go hand in hand. It is SUPPOSED to be there.I guess you're basically trying to suppress the Anise? Why not just try a different flavor?

I've smoke Nakhla DA for 7 years, now - it was the very first shisha I tried. I think SilentBob MAY be experiencing the same thing I recently did, and this level of anise isn't how it is supposed to be - it was like pure licorice. I actually couldn't taste ANY apple flavor at all. None. I think it only became that way possibly because I put it in an airtight container, but I'm not sure. However, a fruit flavor like apple wiht come in and out depending on how "comfortable" the tobacco is. Seems to me if you want the fruit to come through more, let it acclimate. I don't know if its a good idea for Nakhla, but I never airtight seal Tangiers.

I don't mind a light light anise aftertaste, like they're supposed to be. But when the DA goes from tasting like actual two apples to pure anise there's a problem. Thanks for the input Great Pig...I left the DA in the al waha tub without the lid and it seems to be helping.

ambuletzd2h
i leave mine out 24-7 so i dont get so much anise flavor and it does seem to work, if your smoking it alot, you should be done with all of it before it dries out

Majid
Last night i tried the Nakhla DA i had left out for about 5 hours. Nothing spectacular, it tastes a little less heavy anise than normal but not more fruity/apple flavour. I might try the stuff i left out since yesterday to see if that will make a difference
