Another Help Topic From Me

Recommended Posts

Alright first off I would like to say I'm sorry for all the topics asking the same questions you guys are always answering, someday I'll have more to contribute.

I got my Tangiers yesterday, based on some really impressive support of it's quality. So far I've been acclimating kiwi for about 20 hours, it still smells strange, I can kind of smell something fruity, but I can't recall exactly what kiwi smell like. I tried a bowl using Snoop's method earlier but had to put out the coals and hang up the hose after about three hits, now I understand what you guys are talking about with that tingle in your throat, holy crap.

Now that I realize how long it takes to acclimate I've started acclimating Melon blend, and it's been sitting for about three hours now, it smells much stronger and better than kiwi already. I'm assuming that it just isn't as tempermental.

So, my first question is how strong these should smell, and what they should smell like. The room they are acclimating in is fairly small and at the very top of my house (third story) so it gets extremely hot up there (but I would assume the humidity is the same regardless of heat?), but it is also where I smoke. The room was filled with smell from the moment I opened the bag, is there any surefire way of knowing when to stop acclimating?

Once again, I am sorry for reposting things that have been asked many times, but I've read just about every tangier related topic on the forum and still have some questions, so as I go through the process of learning to use this stuff I will keep all my questions in this topic.

first thing i can say is use very little heat and build it up til its perfect. what kind of coals are you using. i acclimate for about 2 days, but it depends on where you live how long you will have to let it acclimate for. ive heard of people letting it sit out for 5 days before it got ready, and ive heard of people smoking it after 2 hours.

I am using coco naras, although I just recently started using them and don't have an efficient way to light them yet (electric coil burner from walgreens is in the mail, thanks for another great suggestion HF) so if quicklights will work I'd rather use those.

Medium phunnel, used two coco naras. I tried lighting them on my stovetop, and it worked but it took longer than I had expected, and I was blowing on them for about 5 minutes before the were red all around.

I didn't pack it as tightly as I'm thinking I should have, I also didn't poke many holes. I used a bobby pin (small holes) and poked on ring around the edge and one ring around the center.

Next time I am going to try MDL's style, more holes, bigger holes, and tighter pack. And I'm also going to wait a few more hours to let them acclimate some more, whichever smells better is the one I'll try.

There's a good chance that it's just the Kiwi flavor. I have a bowl of Kiwi that had acclimated for 30 hours. It didn't have that unacclimated smell, but certainly didn't smell as strong as the other Tangiers I have (have about 1.5 kilos right now). When I open up Grape or Melon, the whole room fills with the smell. Watermelon and Kiwi... not so much. Smokes a little weak too.

Smoking melon blend right now. Still a little harsh, but I've got decent flavor and no more "tingle" in my throat.

But the buzz, oh the buzz. Had to crawl to my seat at my computer for fear of what would happen when I stood up.

I'm using MDL's bowl packing method, working much better than the crap I tried the first time. I looked back on other packing methods again and what I did wasn't even close to a single one of them, I don't know what I was thinking.

Really enjoying this bowl, thanks for everything Hookah Forum, and I would like to clarify one more time how bad I feel about all these topics requesting help, especially considering how many topics I've found that answer similar questions. Hopefully someday I will be less of a burden, but until then I really appreciate the friendliness and helpfulness of the people on this site.

Thank you. Edited by soldier92
