Brown Smoke! :(

Recommended Posts

I recently gave my hookah a deep cleaning and now everytime I go to smoke it I can't get the hookah to work properly. The smoke is brown and you can't taste the shisha. I even bought a brand new hose an two new things of shisha. Is there something i'm doing wrong or something I can do to correct this?

Are you sure the smoke is brown? Are you smoking near a brown couch or brown furniture cuz in the right lighting the smoke may appear brown. Also are you getting thin smoke? if thats the case add more heat. Now i get the feeling that when you smoke it seems like the hookah does not want to work (i.e. the water does not "bubble" as much when you inhale like it used to). If this is the case than the ball in ur purge valve is stuck. If you could describe ur problem a bit more and let us know ur setup many of us could probably help you solve this problem faster.

there is no brown furniture, im positive it's brown smoke. I think that the shisha is burning and causing the brown smoke. I tried putting more layers of foil and the brown smoke has sort of gone away but now its not pulling very well. I checked the ball and it's fine and the water bubbles normally.

hummmmm i've never had a rotator, but that site usually has good stuff.
perhaps try cleaning it with lemon/lime juice and baking soda, thats what i use. it cleans it well and gets any leftover smells out. using some type of pipe cleaner helps too. if you're not doing that already that is

If you're getting brown or discolored smoke AND you just deep cleaned your hookah the only thing that I can think of is either...

A.) Your new hose is giving off some excess dye or something.
B.) You're burning the hell out of your shisha, as in the actual tobacco portion. Edited by Hobbs

Hey, if your bowl is metal, or small it could explain that, my first hook was a cheapy with a shiney bowl, but it got so hot it melted the grommet, the bowl slid down till it was up to the holes of the bowl, the rubber burn and turned the smoke yellowish. But I think that one would be obvious, make sure that the main part of your hook, the bottom of the stem where your hose comes out is not clogged or filled with ash or depbris, cause I have had problems with that also. And finally play around with your air restrictor and make sure it is working right. If all fails buy a new Hook, and stop wasting your shisha, I hope this helps

Check if the bowl grommet is burning.

Cut your coals up with a knife to make them smaller. Use less coal than you have been in the past. Sounds like you're just using way too much heat and it's a coincidence that you cleaned your hookah right before this started happening.

did you get a brown hose? if not be VERY careful. whenever it burns a different color then white, your cooking something on/in the hookah you shouldnt be.

The best advice i could give you is buy a new hookah if you keep getting brown smoke. Dont deal with the possibility of getting some nasty disease or infection from smoking rubber or w/e else it could be.

i really want to see this brown smoke

ive smoked ALOT of hookah, from alot of different hookah in alot of ways (im sure most of us have) and I have NEVER seen brown smoke lmao!

It might be the bowl grommet though like someone said above, or the actual bowl...

you should take apart your hookah and reassemble it..and check each part to see what might of caused it. It's hard to tell without any pictures :X

There can't be brown smoke....

I smoke cigarettes and cigars. They don't have any sort of brown smoke at all and they straight up burn as opposed to hookah baking the tobacco. Perhaps some trickery of the eye? If anything, smoke should have a slight blue tinge.

It might be black smoke playing a trick on your eyes. If it's black smoke, you're smoking your grommets or burning the shisha with the coals. Is it harsh? Do you smell chemicals or burning rubber? If it's not smoking as good as it used to, the purge valve's ball is stuck or there's water in the valve. Or somewhere in the stem there's an air leak. Maybe cleaning it might have bent or dented something? Who knows.. too many possibilities.

even if you stuck a torch to your bowl and smoked it, the smoke should theoretically still come out white. if its really brown then something is really really really weird.

invest in some sort of exorcism or something. no but really, it has to be some sort of optical issusion.

try smoking in different parts of your house, and outside. see if that does anything.
