inino
doesnt matter as long as the little ball is in there. when you suck on the hose the ball gets sealed in, and you blow out it pushes up to the cap. it doesnt matter how tight or loose it is. EternalSoil
you dont want to wrench the thing down or you will never get it off to clean it out.just hand tighten it when your cleaning, your hand will be wet and that should keep you from getting it too tight. Scoop
i keep it loose. if you use the original ball bearings theyll get covered in glycerin and flavorings condensing on it, and will get stuck. its easy to unscrew it and not thread it by accident if you just keep it loose. now on the other hand, you can just replace it with a plastic bb and its even betterby loose i mean like 2 full turns to take it off. indian_villager
I keep hearing people tell me that you have to loosen the purge valve to purge. Or that loosening it up will make the smoke better. Where did these myths spring up? I just keep mine finger tight with an airsoft bb inside. K1024
i have a friend whose hookah doesnt have a ball bearing in it. instead you unscrew it to allow more air in if its harsh, or you tighten it up to get more clouds.

So loosening or tightening doesn't make a difference. Unless the purge valve cap has no holes on it at all. One of my friends tried smoking hookah without a ball in the purge valve and it was nearly unsmokeable.
