Got A Hookah Off Ebay

Recommended Posts

New member to the forums here, but not new to hookah. Been smoking off and on for a couple years now. I've owned a few hookahs, a Mya Paragon (that I never got to smoke correctly), one of those $15 tiny hookahs (that people claim don't smoke, but I got it to smoke wink.gif), and some unbranded POS mini pumpkin-style hookah I bought for $20. I haven't had real great luck with hookahs, sadly. sad.gif

But I found this hookah on ebay for $95 and had never seen a hookah stem like it. I've seen the koi fish base before, and the cloisson hose, but the stem I've never seen anywhere, so I thought it might be a good get. I haven't received the hookah yet, but I'm hoping it smokes good. Any thoughts?

Yeah, well.. tongue.gif

i hope you dont take it with offense. im just being honest.

No, it's fine. I'm just hoping that for the price I paid it isn't chinese shit. The base might be, but maybe the rest will be good. Maybe.

I agree. I purchased my first chinese shit hookah off eBay and was horribly disappointed. I only paid like $35-$40 for it, but still feel like I got fucked. Ended up giving it to a friend.

I think my $20 pumpkin hookah I bought was my first chinese piece of shit hookah. It.. was a disaster. The metal was crappy aluminum that could be screwed together and unscrewed, but after unscrewing it to clean it it was already flaking off bits of the metal. The inside of the base smelt heavily of paint, most likely just painted with spray paint. The bowl was one of those crummy 50 cent ones, and the hose was non-washable and smelt like rubber. It was also rusted already, or made from oxidized metal. The case it came in stunk like bad glue, or chemicals. The only good part of the whole deal was the tongs that came with it, which were small pointed-styled ones good for using with small coals. It was not air-tight, and never smoked right. I had to wrap duct tape or plummer's tape around the parts that screwed together to get a good seal, but the stem and base did not fit together properly anyway. It was about 10 inches tall. After three or so smoke sessions (if you could call them 'sessions'), I tossed the whole thing in the garbage except for the tongs. I'm surprised I didn't die from smoking out of it.

If this hookah is better than that POS, that's fine by me. tongue.gif

It actually looks like an Ager in some respect. Which are chinese, but often smoke as well as anything else out there.

There is really only one way to find out, smoke it and let us know.

Yep. I plan to. It'll be here Saturday. I can't wait.. *rubs hands together evilly* wink.gif

I'm jones'n for a smoke.. happy.gif

I found the shitty chinese hookah I bought. I got it from hookahcompany.com.

http://www.hookahcompany.com/mini_pumpkin_...h_3055_prd1.htm

They don't seem to sell the exact same one I bought, though the red one's stem looks familiar, and I got a blue base in that same style.

That metal on the outside of the stem is just a cover. The inside stem is cheap chinese aluminum garbage.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOOKAH AT ALL COSTS!!

What a piece of shit..

I think I found the manufacturer of this hookah..

The stem on this looks a lot like it:

And the base in this pic is very familiar, just not blue:

So.. put these two things together, and I think it makes my hookah.

There are some really good quality MYA knockoffs out there I think this is one of them.

My friend has MYA Knock-off Vortex that a friend got for him from Dubai, and its amazing.

Its a very unique and nice looking hookah. I hope it smokes well.

The hookah pipe is here!

I'll give a run down of the quality of the pieces..

The base is nice, with what feels like fairly thick glass. It's not quite as heavy as the Mya Paragon base I had, but it's pretty heavy. The neck is made of very thick glass. It's sandblasted and has koi fish and flower designs on it. I bet with a glow ball in it this would be awesome looking.

The stem is a bittersweet thing. I knew the things on the outside were merely decoration, and that the inside tube would be just simple aluminum. I was right. The down-stem seems to be simple polished aluminum. The 'hub' part that holds the purge valve and hose is very nice, to me anyway. It's not quite a Mya design, but it's very cleanly machined. I think it might be part steel and part aluminum, not sure. It's too heavy to be all aluminum. The tip is also polished aluminum, but the adapters holding the decorative pieces on are heavy duty steel. The middle piece is a clear plastic 'jewel' type thing, and the picture was wrong. It's not green, it's blue. Blue works better with this, so I don't mind. Green looked funny, didn't it? The metal decorative parts on the top and bottom of the jewel are just simple polished aluminum.

This part of the stem gets interesting. The round ball pieces with gold and blue are pure metal that has been glazed or enamelled. There's also several little plastic diamonds studded at every 'X' junction in the design. Very pretty, but up close I can see a lot of flaws and color accidents. But it's pretty as far as decoration goes.

The hose is washable, and there's a large ceramic design piece on the handle that attempts to match the stem. It feels pretty heavy to me. It might be metal, who knows? The hose is deffinately better than the cheap ones I've seen. I think it might actually be a cloisonn (spelling?) hose, but I've never owned one, so I don't know.

The tray is just a simple tray, nothing special. It's big and wide enough to hold quite a few coals and catch a lot of dust/ash.

I haven't smoked this beast yet, and hopefully I will soon. I just gave everything a nice boiled water bath (except for the base! that's a no no!) and I'm waiting for all of it to dry. I doubt I'll have any rust problems. It's all aluminum or stainless steel.

I'll get some pictures of it when I can..

Smokin it now.. smile.gif

Whew.. okay, I'm a little buzzed while writing this. Using Al Fakher apple and some Golden quicklight coals. I decided to use the Mya ceramic bowl I got from Hookah-Shisha.com instead of the knock-off Mya ceramic bowl that came with the hookah. The knock-off looks okay, but the holes are poorly placed. Oh, and I'm using double-layered foil. I sprinkled the shisha inside the bowl. It didn't need much. I tried one coal and it didn't seem to be enough, so I tried two, and wow.. I can really taste it now. Very sweet. Nice clouds too. Hits hard. The draw is a little tough on the hose, most likely 'cause of the small hole in the hose adapter.

*cough* 2 coals might be too much for this little bowl. It's a bit harsh and gets the back of my throat. Any ideas? 1 and a half coals maybe? Or 3 halves circling the bowl's edge? These are just little 33mm coals, too.

Anyway, enough typing.. I'm gonna get back to enjoying this.. wink.gif
