Diffuser Idea

The other day I was working on one of my gunsmith projects at the drill press doing what is called "porting" a barrel, and I went "Hey, I got an idea!" I have an extra down stem from an old hookah that I got off of eBay some time ago as my first hookah that I don't use any longer. I am thinking of taking a small drill bit, as small as I can get, and drilling a series of holes in the down stem to create something of a diffuser. The end of the tube will have to be capped or sealed off somehow but not coming up with any good ideas other than silver soldering the hole shut.

Thought I would toss it out to the board for discussion or other / better ideas.

i would go out to a hardware store and get a rubber cap or shave a cork to the hole size so you can have easy access to clean the diffuser out easily.

why does it need a bottom? the diffuser that i have on my leila has no bottom and i have no problem with it.

I would guess that if I did not do anything with the bottom that the holes in the side of the tube would make no difference, the smoke would go with the path of least resistance or the largest hole.

that is a good call, this is why I posted! Thanks for sharing your idea and different vision. It is obvious to me now but I was not even thinking that simple of a solution, I guess I was making it overly complicated.

So am I crazy or does anyone think this will work even half ass?

assuming they arent at the very very bottom, the path of least resistance would be the higher up holes, assuming they arent like pinpricked size. just make them the size you see on a heba diffuser and it will work fine without a bottom.
