TheScotsman
One needs to ask themselves just why they would even consider pointing out an actual fact is any form of racism? Is pointing out that black on black violence is the major cause of death in young black males a racist statement? - it is a true fact.If it is racist, how is it different than pointing out that almost all mass-murders are higher IQ middle aged, white weirdos. That is silly as it gets. Until we can address facts as just that, fact, just how the hell do you expect to be able to fix the problem?Do you really think pointing out that he was Asian (Chinese, if I remember right) is going to hurt some Asian's feelings? if it does, then they need therapy as bad as he did.The colour of the skin covering a skull has damn little to do with the screwed up mind contained in it. drabin
scotsman i'm not sure what to make of your post. I was just curious, I'm not saying that all asians are going to snap and kill people. thats just dumb. simple curiosity not meant to be racist and i was in no way judging any of the people. Balthazar
I don't think he suggested that your motives were racist. What he was trying to say is that you should not have to add "Not to be racist" when asking a question that's not racist at all. Or something. TheScotsman
QUOTE (drabin @ Jan 24 2009, 04:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>scotsman i'm not sure what to make of your post. I was just curious, I'm not saying that all asians are going to snap and kill people. thats just dumb. simple curiosity not meant to be racist and i was in no way judging any of the people.I guess I didn't make it too clear.I think the fact we, as a common practice, would say something along the order of disavowing any racist implication as a precursor to stating a simple fact. Maybe it's just my, but I hear a similar statement all too frequently before someone mentions a true statement regarding any member of a minority group involved in a crime. I don't see how mentioning the fact he is Asian could ever be construed as any implication that the person making the statement is some form of bigot. Just hearing such a disclaimer makes me wonder what society has done to people's ability to communicate in a meaningful manner. Someone always seems to have their undies in a bunch over a simple word. I wasn't implying any racist bias on your part, just wondering why anyone would feel the need to point out that they were not intending to offend anyone with the statement. Ah, damn, I know what I meant, even if I can't seem to turn it into a coherent thought at the moment. No offense was intended.
