coplinb
You dont need the grommet per say, its only there to make an air tight connection to the stem, and to keep it from falling off. If it fits air tight, which i doubt it does, it shouldnt be a problem. If im wrong on that, someone, please correct me.
drabin
hmm i wouldn't do that because it most likely won't be a strong enough seal. if you can get your hands on electrical tape you can put a thin layering around the top of the stem when you use the km bowl. also try wet paper towel. chinamon
the whole point of the grommet is to create a better seal.think of a water faucet without the proper rubber washers. leaks everywhere and the faucet would not function at its full potential.if you cant use the original grommet then you could just wrap some wet paper towel around the top of the stem and put the bowl on that. drabin
oh also watch out with paper towels when wet the water can get on the tray if you used to much and if you put coals on the tray they could go out from the water. or if its not very wet and the coal touches the towel it will start burning the paper towel. but then again were talking a KM which probably means the tray is 5 feet from the bowl (yes exaggeration) so the burning won't be a problem. cotsi95
QUOTE (drabin @ Jan 23 2009, 06:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>also try wet paper towel.DING DING DING lol just fold a piece over itself about 4 times 1/2-1in think then wet it and wrap it around and put your bowl on it will dry and seal as you smoke. antouwan
my cousin has a lebanese style fitting stem and he doesn't use a grommet and it works great. like everyone else said, the grommet is just there to make a better seal - it isn't like if you don't use the grommet the hookah will magically explode, or the bowl will display 'syntax error' and fail to function. just mess around with your setup to see what works the best. ALSO: before you load the head, put it on without tobacco in it with the grommet and then without and take a pull, see which one feels stronger... Damp paper towel = ftw.
ElijahSing
yeah, i'm using my Vortex that i got today, and the grommet that came with my Bambino bowl is smaller that the opening for the vortex so it kinda sits on it a little loose, its not really creating any problems but i was thinking maybe i should get an adapter grommet just for airtight's sakeness.. lol
inino
i use a wet paper towel for the bowl, and the hose. and a 1 inch wide t shirt strip for the stem. cut the shirt then wetted it and wrapped it on the stem, then when it dried it became very good. sapo916
Yeah wet paper towels always do the trick but I would just buy a rubber piece at a store and cut it to size. It really looks a lot cleaner and is a lot simpler in the long run versus paper.
