Hobbs
So I was in chat talking about my Tangiers woes and EternalSoil came to my rescue. With his tips/suggestions I got my Tangiers Melon Blend to smoke like a dream. Here's the pics for all to view, turns out my problem was I was very timid in packing the bowl. The buzz is definately more than your typical shisha, which i'm cool with but it won't be my daily smoking choice. Thanks EternalSoil for your help man! pics taken with my camera phone so they aren't the best but you get the idea.

indian_villager
Scoop I can't find your tutorial for it.
EternalSoil
it is a lot more than most people pack...but when people are new to it they tend to under pack it even when they think they are over packing. this leads to the tickle or any other unsatisfying effects that turn people away from it.when people have problems after trying and reading posts and trying more i tell them to do this, works 60% of the time, every time. then once they realize that works, they can go from there, putting less and less in until they find the sweet spot. clickhea
so few holes?
EternalSoil
holes you can mess with yourself... his way works, i would have put more, but i kinda use that tail method...but i dont make the tail... just peal it back and turn it, poke more holes and put another coal on. Hobbs
2 rings of holes did it for me clickhea, but yea you guys are right it's probably a bit much, but it smoked 100 times better than not enough, and I tried packing more than usual but less than what I did this time, I tried packing it hard, I tried packing it upside down to get it to work! (kidding on the last one)Next time I'll try a bit less, this was also my last bit of Tangiers so any I had left would have gone to waste.

Bulldog_916
Glad you got it working. I overpack it a lot. At least half inch over the top. That's the sweet spot.
Zyram
Yea you really have to pack that stuff in there. I love Tangiers but I'm almost out! I only have lucid left right now, Tasty Peach and Mint, need to order more soon! The three coals does seem a bit much, is that a small funnel? I use 3 on my large, but only ever need 2 on my small. Otherwise I get a major tickle and harsh smoke.-Z
AmunRa
I have a medium phunnel, and I used to use 3. I use two and a wind cover now. It's not as strong that way, but it tastes better and lasts longer. Easier on carpet too.
Hobbs
Med phunnel like the above poster, it was 1/2 of a stick of Exotica's total. 2 coals just don't give much smoke for me.

SilentBob
hookahjohn also has a video on youtube that is pretty good. he shows you how eric from tangiers packs his.
Scoop
no one duplicates how eric does it...lol. hookahjohn is similar but eric does all these little tricks while doing it.i do it very similar to hookahjohn and it works (i usually pack a tiny bit less and just scoop through the bowl)
Webbles
DAMN 3 cocos?!For my regular tangiers, i usually only use 3 x 1/2 cocos. Tangiers really doesnt need that much heat. I think the buzz your getting is you burning up more nicotine than ya should. But i also over-pack the bowl. I was in san diego over New years and was taught how to pack the bowl by Eric himself. He has a nifty trick of packing the tobacco with his palm then twisting his palm to even out the tangiers. But hey, if your loving it, disreguard what i said.Cheers! Scoop
actually the nicotine has a lower vaporization point than the flavorings/glycerin, which is why its so harsh if you underpack (air is a low conductor of heat, heat loss only burns nicotine...ouch harsh)
