M.m.a.: Affliction: Day Of Reckoning

I dont know if anyone else on here ordered the Affliction: Day of Reckoning PPV event, but if you did, you cant be too disappointed in the event as a whole. 2 spectacular KOs, a couple of TKOs and a couple of submissions. Cant get much more mixed than that.

Andre Arlovski ate a Fedor Emelianenko right hand in mid-air that knocked him unconscious before he hit the ground.

Vitor Belfort cracked Matt Lindland with a stiff left that stunned the hell out of him before finishing the job in a couple of hard ground punches. Lindland was so out of it that it took him 5 whole minutes to finally become lucid and another 3 to even stand up.

Renato Sobral locked on a beautiful anaconda choke that caused Thierry Sokoudjou to tap in the second round.

Paul Buentello proved once again that his experience on the feet can bring problems even to fighters known as "Fedor Emelianenko protoges." He beat Kerlil Sidelnikov handily through three rounds of stand up fighting ending in a stoppage after Sidelnikov repeatedly lost his mouth piece following hard punches to the face.

Those are just the highlights of the night. Well worth the money to see the event I think.

Oh yea, also, there's a WEC event on VS. tonight, a rematch between Urijah Faber and Jens Pulver. I highly recommend you see it if you can sit through the commercials every 5 minutes.

BJ Penn and Georges St. Pierre will also be shown but next week. I'm looking forward to seeing it. I have BJ Penn taking Georges St. Pierre by submission, but only barely. St. Pierre is no doubt a great fighter and probably one of the best, but BJ Penn is more focused than he has ever been. It's a tough call.

Yea he did. But I think Pulver is going to come out more focused this time.

apparently not

He was focused, but one punch can change everything and Faber's amazing body shot did that in spades. I think Faber is one of the best featherweights in MMA right now. Pulver has to go and look in the mirror and check if he really can do this like he used to. You cant come in and work one fighting style and expect that you'll do well. You have to have a flexible fighting style that encompasses several distinct techniques. I think Pulver is counting too much on his past as a striker. He has to find his ground game or improve his striking beyond boxing.

As far as Penn and St. Pierre, the UFC has a habit of cutting footage to make it look worse than it is. Most of these guys would just rather fight than talk at a camera. So suggestive or leading questions come out a lot. Penn is a pretty respectful guy most of the time, he just has to play mind games to get his head into the fight. Some guys just need that to keep their focus. GSP is an extremely polite fighter. But if he hears something come out of Penn's mouth that he doesnt like, obviously he'll respond in turn. When they get into the Octagon, all this interview shit goes away and it's just 1 on 1. Just be really skeptical of the build-up shows to PPVs. They want to get people to watch, their interest is not portraying the fighters with respect. It's business. It doesnt exactly reflect how the guys actually are.

I don't think I'll get to the point where I know who the hell is who, but I used to hate MMA and now that I'm working out and more testosterone pumped i kinda like it.

whats a goos show/league whatever they're called to watch?

Arlovski was making Fedor look like garbage in that fight. Jens should have never fought that fight in the first place. Finally GSP by TKO round 4.

lol...right. fedor is good because he doesn't go down. watch his fights. he gets suplexed, he nearly got knocked out by an asian guy and still beats the piss out of him.

arlovski didn't do anything special, he had decent stand up but didn't hurt fedor. you can see this as he comes off the ropes he looks super relaxed and bam destroy.

the mans a machine (nice in person too)
