Longest Lasting Coals

Recommended Posts

idk about longest lasting coals, but i do know that if you use a wind cover your coals will last longer. on my leila half a coal lasts somewhere around 45 minutes, where as on my mya 3 coals may last between 1 hr to 1:30 hrs.

i use 3 kings pretty much exclusively, but i get them for about a dollar per roll.

I cannot tell you from personal experience, but I have read that coco naras are great long lasting coals. I read that Codename067 suggests them. I watched his youtube vids and instantly decided I wanted the kind of smoke he was getting. Try going to the review section for coals. gaia.plateau (I think that is the name) has an awesome review comparing coco naras to exotica coals. Either way, from all that I have read, natural coals normally last longer, but are more difficult to light. I am planning on ordering a Km soon with some other stuff...I am thinking about ordering coco naras with it.

That's not quite right. The reason the coals lasted longer on the leila is that there is a lot less air being allowed to pass by the coals.

I have used the ones pictured in the thread, the Hookah John coals, and coconaras among tons of others. I smoke using Coconaras exclusively now. If I HAD to use QLs I would grab some HookahJohn QLs, had them before and they are awesome. I get Coconaras for $13.34 a box shipped so thats pretty cheap, cant complain. And they last a good 45 minutes with no windcover and heavy smoking.

i thought it was because the metal around the coal was heating up and keeping the coal at about the same temperature, causing less work? the less air getting by thing makes sense though, but i would think that the fact that it stores heat much better would make sense as well.

hippo master, thanks for your reply.

Heat management. I'm assuming that's adding ice etc. I'll search around!

Take care of yourself

Ohh no, Heat management is keeping the coals emitting a steady heat, but not too much and not too little. Moving them around on the bowl, adding a windcover, etc. Ha sorry i should have clarified that.

Over-all, ice actually takes away from the formation of gigantic clouds everyone loves so much.

Coal longevity also depends on how many/how large your foil holes are, how often you pull, and how hard you pull; your actions are what keeps them going.

QL coals aren't the best value for coals, but if you are unable to use a stove to light coals, then you are gonna have to stick with Quik Coals. Akhla aren't bad from when I have experimented with them, I have had a couple shatter on me though, but that happens. C-hookah quik's are the best I have tried, they are Coconut, and they are the best value for QL coals - also, their ignition chemical seems to last the longest, if you leave other QL coals open to air for extended periods (month or so) they will fail to ignite fully, or at all.

C-hookah coals are your best bet, available on HookahJohn.com. Al Awa'el Coconut Coals (the picture in an earlier post) are what I use personally and I love 'em. Japanese Coals are well made, I don't prefer the chemicals though; hence the reason I don't use QL coals.

Ohh, and if you could do one thing to save yourself in the future; Don't get into Exotica coals. wink.gif Edited by Hippo_Master

Please explain yourself sir biggrin.gif

I love the exotica's, when done correctly they smoke well for hours. No quick-light chemical taste, just the shi-sha.

I'm going to try out some Three Kings though, as they worked well at a party I was at`

For long lasting, quality coals, go with Cocos.

CH coals from Hookah John are great if you can light them outside...otherwise, I would advise against it.

I had a good size gathering last week (3 hookahs, one of them a 4-hose oblelisk) and had to light 9 of them. Maybe this was unwise initially but my smoke detector proved it. It freaked out. tongue.gif

Luckily, I just busted out my little stove and moved to the porch to light.

Go with Cocos. No smell, and last about 1-1.5 hours. Very good coal and the price difference isn't enough to justify the smell CH coals give off, in my opinion. It smells like a camp fire. Yuck for inside.

Thanks guys again. I needed some coals quick so I stopped by a local store and got some coal called golden coals. They seem to be working well.

Definitely getting cocos!
