Wind Cover Required?

Recommended Posts

My friend and I were smoking my hookah yesterday using Al Fhaker Shisha and Golden Quicklight coals in a small Mya ceramic bowl. I got a couple buzzes off of the stuff, but nothing big, and my friend, who's been smoking hookah a long time, got zero buzz. The flavor was also very boring. We tried Al Fhaker Lemon, Pineapple, Apple, and Melon. All were barely noticable except for the Lemon, which actually tasted like sour lemons. We tried 1 coal, then 2 coals, less shisha, more shisha, a full bowl of packed shisha, nothing seemed to help.

Finally, on the last bowl I made a quick foil wind cover by wrapping the foil around the bowl and leaving a hole in the top. This seemed to make the wind and heat focused on the bowl and shisha, and caused more flavor and smoke, but still the buzz wasn't there. Does Al Fhaker suck? Do Golden Quicklights suck? Or do I simply need a wind cover? I thought maybe getting a funnel bowl will make it taste better, but I need it to smoke better too.

I checked the pipe and it's working good. There's no air leaks anywhere. It's pretty solid. Water was 1/2 to 1 inch above the end of the down stem, so that wasn't a problem. I noticed the juice was leaking out of the bowl, but not down the pipe. It pooled around the grommet and into the ash tray. So I'm loosing right flavor there, which is why I think I need a funnel.

Any ideas?

I had a box of Cocos and they were garbage. They took way too long to light, even on a stove. I thought Three Kings would be some good quicklights?

I didn't know AF was washed. Now I understand why the juice is so thin and wet, though.

Too bad Paypal doesn't allow Tobacco sales, 'cause I got no other means of buying more shisha this month.

the juice being thin and wet has nothing to do with washed or unwashed. tagiers is some of the most moist shisha out there (hence the use of the phunnel). If your looking for a buzz though tangiers and nakhla are two awesome unwashed tobaccos taht should do the trick.

If your searching for a quicklight that will work more like a Coco then get some of HookahJohn's Coconut Quicklites. And if your searching for a buzz Tangiers or Nakhla is the only way to go.

I personally ain't looking for a buzz, but my friend kept bad-mouthing Al Fahker 'cause he wasn't getting one. He kept saying there's "Good stuff" out there. I was like "This IS good stuff, it just isn't as strong. And plus I don't have a phunnel bowl."

What's the tastiest stuff? Is there a really tasty brand? I'm looking for a really awesome watermelon flavor, like I'm smoking a bowl of Big Chew Watermelon Gum.
