How Often Do Hookah Bars Clean Their Hookahs?

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to know how often hookah bars clean their hookahs / change the water? I know this will vary from place to place but the worst one in columbus does not change their water for at least 5 days. I tend to clean my hookah before each use and would not settle for less. Thanks

Have you ever been to Gypsy? There is one down here in Cincinnati which is owned by the same guy and/or his brother and they are pretty good down here. I would imagine they clean there hookahs after every use but who knows.

The worst one I worked at would wash them at the end of the night and occasionaly change water depending on what flavor was last in it and what was going in it next. The best one would wash with brushes and change water after every bowl.

I wash mine after every use.

Do you have to use a sanitation sink, like the 3 step washing? Or can you just wash them out in your sink at the bar?

i just wash em in the single sink in the back. Full sterilization wash isn't really necessary.

I was not sure if I legally had to do that or not. Thanks!

nope..not considered a food serving item.

Which is also why its a good idea to use paper and plastic cups and stuff. Unless you are preparing food, you want to keep the health inspector FAr away as possible.

I'd suggest a espresso machine though.

too many hookah bars dont wash their stuff often enough, everything ends up tasting like black licorice from the 2 apples. I use designated hoses for strong flavours.

My plan was to use only packaged goods from places like Sams Club and Costco. I was going to sell bottles of Soda, Energy Drinks, Iced Tea (Arizona Brand), and Gatorade.

I am not sure what I am going to do about food yet, I might just do chips, candy, cookies, etc.

Thanks man.

Sounds like you run a quality place mush ... I have some family in NC, I might have to stop in if I am ever in that neighborhood.

As for the hookah bar near me, if you go on a weeknight, you get a squeaky clean hookah every time you order a new flavor. But on the weekends if they are really busy (which they usually are) they start cutting corners.

let people order delivery while they are there. Or do what i do with the mediterranian place next door. I call in the order, they deliver, I charge the customer, take a cut, and settle with the med place at the end of the month for their share.
