NIGHTS OF BAGHDAD
i know most people suggests doing 3 rings on the foils, and for al fakher ive noticed it doesnt like 2 coals only 1..so if i where to do the 3 rings can i use 3 halves of charcoal 1 for each hole or should i stick with one charcoal and rotate from each ring to other ring? also when using a phunnel do you ever place the charcoal on foil where there is no holes or only on the holes? indian_villager
As for the amount of coals you are going to have to specify what coals you are using. And as for the placement it does depend on your coals as well but the rule of thumb is that you place the coals on the are where the holes are present. All in all it is up to you to experiment and to discover what works best for you every case follows a general solution but still varies to some extent on your case. modisess
how are you packing your phunnel? with af in a phunnel, at least 3 cocos are needed to get a good smoke. but are you using the 44mm 3kings or just the standard ones? try using 1 and a half coal.charcoal goes on top of the holes. Capt. Morgan
For pretty much anything I use 3 rings of holes plus 1 hole over the very center (more out of personal preference than anything else). Take 3 ql halves, 4 if they are the small ones and go around the outside edge. I've always gotten good smoke wit this method. Best of luck. NIGHTS OF BAGHDAD
thanx guys..its the 33mm 3 kings..i will make 3 halves and put one on each circle pattern and see how it goes..
thehelios
Ive only done 2 rings with a tealight scalli mod, af mint, and 2 3king qls not being broken up and had great smoke. 3-4 3kings should give you about an hour and a half to two. NIGHTS OF BAGHDAD
another reason i ask is because i noticed al fakher only likes 1 charcoal..if i use more then it gets harsh and i get that sore throat feeling..nakhla doesnt mind 2 charcoals i can get away with that and same with starbuzz they only like 1.. vin13
Man I wish I could get away with using 1 or 2 coals per session. We almost always smoke with 4 cocos on the bowl. Good thing it's so tasty or it wouldn't be worth the $

ebarnes02
I have an original large phunnel, i remember using 4 halves of 3K QLs back in the day. That thing was freaking huge though,i never finished a bowl. The Med. phunnel i have now i use 2 coco's for Tangiers or AF, but when i smoke starbuzz it needs 3. I've never used 4 though, thats A LOT of heat.
ahwahoo2006
QUOTE (NIGHTS OF BAGHDAD @ Jan 30 2009, 04:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>thanx guys..its the 33mm 3 kings..i will make 3 halves and put one on each circle pattern and see how it goes..I think you are doing the pattern wrong because you should not be able to put a half over each circle. What that suggests to me is that you have 3 little circles in an overall triangle shape like: 0 0 0When people say rings, they mean a circle of holes the entire way around the bowl. inino
woah the last post messed up on me. i wouldnt worry too much about how you poke your holes, just poke alot of small holes, and none over the middle. put your 3 halves on and puff away.
