But over rated - Tangiers [Waits for the hooded legions of fanboys to attack in a freenzie]

It's too hard, it's finicky and too bloody fussy.

JD

I love Tangiers but I will agree with you, alot of people deify it. I find it to be a really good tobacco, but that is only cause I have never had any problems with it.

Sounds like most brands of shisha are over rated...

Everybody is going to have different tastes, and its all your perception. It is all opinion and opinions are not always right.

This is a true statement, because not everybody is going to like everything

I thought of another for the over priced area.
Fumari
Now i really think that fumari is really good (i dont like it as much as tangiers lucid but still good)
But 9 bucks for 100g thats 22.50 for 250g thats more than SB.
Just a thought though. If it was like 13 - 15 bucks for a 250 of it then i would buy it all the time.

I must agree on the Tangiers...it's just not the most amazing thing ever, if it was there would not be 1000 topics on how to get it to smoke correctly....

But once you get it right, you'll never go back. tongue.gif

Agreed.

I used to think SB was really good, because it was hyped around the time that I bought it. After my noob stages, I see how much I spent on that shisha. Then I moved straight to Tangiers, and haven't looked back.

tangiers is like a Ferrari. just cause you dont know how to handle the car doesnt make the car bad.

imo the biggest mistake people make w/ tangiers is heat management. if you have too little heat and have the coals at the wrong spot its harsh, if you have too much heat its harsh.

as far as overrated shisha goes i think starbuzz has the gold medal on this one.

Without a doubt Tangiers is the most overrated shisha tobacco ever. No other brand has had a bajillion posts about it, both good and bad. AF gets alot of posts about bad batches, but Tangiers gets way too much attention.

I'm going to have to back AK & JD on this one, as far as "overrated" brands go, it would have to be Tangiers.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Tangiers, but in my opinion it's not a better smoke than other brands, just different. Some people prefer less buzz, some people prefer flavors that only other brands offer, etc. The thing I like about Starbuzz for instance is that they have flavors that aren't offered elsewhere, but I could say the same for certain Tangiers flavors too... wink.gif

The discussion of costs of Starbuzz always bugs me as well. By the same logic that says that Starbuzz is overrated due to its high cost, shouldn't we then conclude that Al Waha, Afzal, Nakhla, etc. are underrated due to their low cost compared to Tangiers? Also, speaking directly of the cost of Tangiers, given the way it's packed I find it to be on par with Starbuzz when you look at the cost on a per bowl basis. Granted there may be a difference in the amount of time the bowl will last, but in my case I always use a phunnel bowl and I never smoke through the entire thing. I know I've come close with SB, but that would be 3-4 hours of smoking a single bowl. I've gone 3 hours smoking a Tangiers bowl and still had it a bit moist in the bottom, but even if the bowl did last another 2+ hours I would never smoke it that long before rotating to a new flavor. So for me at least, the price of Tangiers in actuality is the same as the price of Starbuzz.

I won't use the word overrated. However, Starbuzz definitely didn't live up the expectations i had before smoking it. Flavor was lacking, the clouds were there, but there was just no flavor to it. Al Fakher, i've never really had a problem with, i've always enjoyed it. AF Double Apple is great.

I'll join ranks and say that Tangiers is my top shisha. I've had maybe 1 or 2 flavors i didn't like, but every other one has been just amazing. I just had Kashmir Apple for the first time last night, AMAZING.

al waha IS underrated. ive smoked a phunnel of it for over 2 hours. there are a decent amount of sucky flavors but the good ones are great. decent flavor, big clouds, small buzz, small price what more could you ask for?

Apple.

Seriously.

Every time I talk to people who claim to "smoke hookah", they always go on and on about "apple". They say it tastes great, smokes well, and is the best thing since sliced bread.

wink.gif More to the point, I think will vary from person to person. I think people are confusing overrated with bad in some cases. While Starbuzz is overrated by the vast majority of the early smokers (I was guilty of this), it's not really bad. Well...I mean it isn't good by any means but it's not bad.

So while Starbuzz isn't the worst brand out there, I am inclined to agree that it is the most overrated shisha in the early stages of smoking. After that, it would have to be Tangiers. While they make my favorite flavor, Sour, I don't understand why everyone says it's as amazing as it is.

Please don't confuse this with me saying Tangiers is bad, it isn't. Far from it. In fact it probably is one the greatest companies out there but the sheer amount of trouble you have to go through to get it going consistently (took me 3-4 months tongue.gif) almost makes it not worth it. Once you get through this beginning part and waste 1-2 kilos of shisha, and you learn your lessons, it really does become one of the best shishas out there but this trouble is the heart of the problem.

Everyone hears how difficult it is to smoke so they keep trying to pack it, expecting some god-like smoke at the end of the treacherous tunnel but when you get there, it seems like a let down. This isn't Tangiers' fault, I think we're all responsible for this.

...Going to go smoke Tangiers Sour now...

P.S. It's worth going through the trouble. <---See what I did thar? lol

oh man i know exactly what you mean. it seems like every hookah "master" you talk to smokes apple 25 hours a day. I think the majority of us here have probably smoked very little apple compared to the other great flavors out there.

as far as over rated brands, SB, Fantasia, fumari. i wont buy these except for ever so rarely.

best brand in my opinion is layalina (one of the few here who love it i think) i_am_so_happy.gif

that being said every brand has its great flavors, and the rest of the flavors are just average.

if you dont like tangiers, you haven't figured it out lol.

starbuzz, romman, fantasia. all overrated

Romman is definitely total crap. Fantasia, i really like the Pink Lemonade, haven't tried anything else. But i will say it is definitely too much like candy for me, it's not what i want to smoke when i really want to smoke and relax. But it can be a nice change of pace.

GNU I agree with you. Al Waha is underrated. I think Nakhla and Al Waha have been the 2 most consistent brands out there. Starbuzz has to be the number one overrated tobacco, followed by Fantasia. Any tobacco can be overrated, but I am gauging by practicality. I could get 3 x 250g boxes of Nakhla for the price of 1 Starbuzz. I do enjoy some Starbuzz and Fantasia every now and then, but their prices are too high.
