Making Shisha.

Recommended Posts

so i was checking out some old threads right before i went to the store. i picked up glycerine, honey, molasses, strawberry, and tobacco. but now i cant seem to find the thread again so i can make the shisha! :-/ so any help getting to the old thread would be great, but what im really looking for is just what proportion everything should be in when i mix it, and what brand of tobacco (washed and unwashed) do those of you that make your own shisha use?
Thanks guys!

I'll just go ahead and tell you what I do, since there are several threads on it and I'm not sure which one you're looking for.

Proportions... should be discovered by yourself, it's more fun and it makes the recipe your own. That said:

1. I usually take a handful of a mild pipe tobacco and toss it into boiling water for ~10 minutes, stirring all the while. Then I'll dump that into a colander, and then take the tobacco out, squeeze most of the moisture out by hand, then simply toss it into a bowl. You want the tobacco slightly damp.

2. The first thing I usually do is to add the flavoring. Myself I use candy oils which you can get at most cake shops/candy supply stores etc. Mix just enough so that you smell it strongly, then let it sit out for 5 mins. Go back and see if you need to add a little more, some flavorings fade a lot as they are absorbed.

3. Then I'll add the honey, usually only a little bit, just enough to get it to clump together lightly. Normally around half a tbsp-1tbsp or so for a whole handful of tobacco.

4. After that I'll top it off with some glycerin. Usually 1tbsp or so, depends on how big a handful of tobacco I had really. Pour on glycerin till the mixture is pretty damn wet, give it a mix in the bowl, then use a fork to strain the shisha and transport it to another bowl. This gets rid of the excess glycerin so that it's easier to pack, and not just a blob of goo.

Then it's time to smoke. Using this method I get ridiculous clouds because it contains more glycerine than most commercial brands. Also, as many flavorings don't last that well it's best to make it fresh, or at least smoke it within a week or two of making.

AK, what pipe tobacco do you like to use? Brand and kind?

Mike

I generally use Captain Black, the regular with a white label. I've found that it's decently priced, readily available in large quantities, and has a very mellow quality to it that lends to both blending and shisha making.

You can use most anything though really, just that a lot of the very cheap brands might need to be washed more because they sometimes have much more of a tobacco taste... not really sure why that is, but it has seemed to be the case in the past.
