haremmaster
Hi, Im new to the site and smoking Hookah in general. I recently tried putting alcohol in the base and i got quite a noticeable buzz I wondered if it is the alcohol and if anybody else has had a similar experience. Seandoo
Actually it's funny you said that - last night I had a little bit of Vodka in the base just to experiment. I'm not sure if it was because I was smoking Nakhla with .5% instead of my usual .05% nicotine content or if it was in fact the vodka but I got pretty messed up. I don't think it was so much from the vodka...so I'm going to try again tonight with a bit more in the base to see for sure. btw you're going to get a lot of posts with people telling you to "drink your alcohol and smoke your hookah", nothing wrong with that, but yeah ignore them and feel free to experiment with whatever you want to try =)
nuschultz
What kind of Vodka did you use? I wouldnt want to waste Grey Goose in my hookah.
Seandoo
oh jeez no way. don't use anything good =) we used something that's supposed to be alright - can't remember what, but we're going to be picking up some cheap vodka for this use.
JByer323
There's a local winery that sells really good wine around here for about $6 a bottle. A mixture of wine and water leads to good results with certain fruit flavors. I'd start with about 2/3 water, 1/3 wine and go from there.I've tried both blush and soft rosé, I personally prefer the rosé.
nuschultz
I hear that if u take Mr. Barton, or any other cheap vodka, and run it thru a britta filter a couple times it is supposed to be really good. I figure it works because a britta is a charcoal filter, and thats what is used ot purify vodka in the first place. Just my $0.02.

Seandoo
btw if you're new to smoking hookah, it could have just been the hookah itself making you feel interesting. hookah generally has that effect by itself, but combined with alcohol...not many people have posted their results....so i will after tonight
Seandoo
I'd be careful of kahlua simply because of its sticky-ness. might mess up the hookah..but you never know! if you have a glass MYA like I do, then the bass is really far from everything else....but then again it's also a MYA so you don't want to risk something nice.... =) i'd say stick to wine, vodka, maybe gin, whatever that ouzo stuff is i keep hearing about lol

JByer323
I've got some buddies that make good ole' fashon Kentucky moonshine. I'm sure that would do wonders in a hookah.

Sonthert
A) In my opinion, Grey Goose is pure crap. Try Tanqueray Sterling instead, if you like your vodka. Not Tanqueray gin, but their vodka (although the gin is quite good too). Charcoal filtering vodka doesn't do crap either. Purifying vodka or other spirits is accomplished by distillation. The charcoal filtering, when done close to the freezing point of water, removes insoluble materials from the alcohol, which would "cloud" when put on ice, like Ouzo does. liquors that are above 45.7% alcohol (91.4 proof) naturally reamin soluble below the freezing point of water. Many finer distilled spirits WONT filter their liquor, to retain flavor that filtering proposes to remove and/or keep the alcohol level high enough to not need filtering. Check a gin bottle some time, always the high quality gins are 92, 94 proof. C) I don't think an alcohol detonation would cause much damage. I could be wrong. Don't try to prove me wrong, please. In the care-free days of "Flaming Doctor Peppers" It would not be uncommon to get burning 151 proof rum on the wrist. Wouldn't even burn off the hair. Alcohol will burn, but it doesn't do it at a very high temperature and it doesn't have as high a gas pressure/vapor pressure as gasoline, natural gas or even acetone. mushrat
darby: its really just grain alcohol in those "moonshine" jars. Like a everclear. More of a gimick than real "shine".
Seandoo
Tried it with mostly cheap vodka in the base, a little water. It was like breathing fumes from hell, but my brother didn't seem to notice as much. Got pretty messed up from it but it wasn't quite like being drunk and didn't last as long. It was definately interesting and had some effect but it wasn't really worth it.
HookahDuck
I immagine alcohol in the base would have a stronger effect when a diffuser is used. I've noticed that my experienced buzz is lessened when using my diffuser; more nicotine is being filtered out by a larger surface area of smoke being exposed to the water. Similarly, with more surface area being exposed to alcohol, I would guess that the smoke would retain more of it.Anyone care to do an experiment? You know, me being under-age, I've never tried the stuff....
Sonthert
Also, note, in general, substances/psychoactive substances are more potent when inhaled rather than ingested. In the case of some substances, "eating" them does nothig, they have to be smoked or injected. Alcohol vapors inhaled would be far more effacacious than drinking the alcohol. Purer, too. Seandoo
Yeah we had a home-made diffuser...but it was a bit far into the stem, so the pull was difficult, part of irritating the lungs. You know...you could try it without even smoking anything and get probably the exact same effect, minus the nicotine headstomp..and if you have a reliable hookah with a clean base, you could reuse the alcohol. You'd know for sure, then, the exact results the alcohol is having on you. I'd imagine it to be a bit different from drinking the stuff.
