mystery tobacco??

Recommended Posts

well, i just went to my local lounge (which i thought carried only nakhla) for some apple ma'assel.  well, to my surprise, they had all sorts of options now.  they said they'd gotten a new triple apple (which i bought, and it turns out it's hennawy brand.. it also says "bahrini" on it, so it might be bahrini apple... it's made in egypt, not bahrain...)  .. i picked up some o the old standby nakhla double apple, and finally just some regular apple.  to my surprise, this was not nakhla apple, at least i don't think it is.anyway, the package is a super flimsy white plastic container, rectangular shaped.  on it is a roundyellow sticker on the front with 2 red apples on it.  there is arabic writing both above and below, which i could never hope to read.  needless to say, it doesn't match the writing on any other ma'assel i have available for comparison.on the back is a health warning sticker, and an indicator that it's .46% nicotine, .06% tar (WHAT?? actual tar? wow, more honest than most :) )  , and 250 grams contents.  there are no other english words on the package.  inside the container was a SUPER sticky package of tobacco.  there was molasses all over it, and the bag was simply tied off to close it.  when i dumped it out and stirred it up, it had a very unique smell.  molasses and apple, i guess, but it doesn't remind me of other apple tobaccos.  the molasses is HEAVY in this stuff, at least in the package.  i haven't smoked any yet.  does anyone have a clue what this stuff might be??  if only i could read arabic!!

i gleaned from the second word on the sticker an "l", "s", and "m" , but there's some other character between the s and m that i can't make out.  plus, i'm not sure about these, because i just went off a chart i found that compares the letters to roman ones.  *shrug*and i don't have a camera available, or i'd get pics... perhaps someday. :)

well, after studying my nakhla, i've determined that the other word on the yellow sticker is "apple"so, it's got a picture of 2 red apples, and above it, it says (in arabic,) apple ma'assel.below the picture are some characters that are all separated and have several repetitions, so i think they're probably numbers ofsome kind.which means there's no brand name anywhere on the damn thing??well, i'll be damned.

I think you spend way too much time with the hookah. If I had started my Arabic courses I would have helped you out...but since I am a slacker you'll have to wait til August.

Nahkla is at least 60 years old, I believe. I want to say they date back to 1922, but 1991 is not their establishment date. As Eissenberg pointed out previously, technically, as I understand him, glycerine is tar. The term is meaningless for hookah tobacco. Congrats to Mushy on 2000 posts! Get to 10,000 and I'll buy you something nice.
