Best Coals For The Glass Screen?

Recommended Posts

So I normally use GC's but have been noticing with the glass screen they don't do the job. I recently started using the glass screen again and now I got the hang of it so I am sticking with it. The GC's work very well with foil but just not enough heat for the glass. What happens is I use 3 GC's on the edge of the glass and a wind cover. This works well for about 20 min, then the smoke starts to thin, so i push the coals in and get another few min, then from there it is done. If i use 4 GC and no wind cover it is too much heat.

So I was wondering what would all of you glass screen users recommend?

I heard the HC coals were good for it but they are low in supply.

Cocos give off good heat but heard they go out easily because of how flat they are so don't know about those.

Any other recommendations?

I was thinking maybe bulk coals would be the best because all you need is the glass to be hot, so who really cares about perfect shape and size and what not right? Just toss some bulk coals on there and puff away. The glass seems to do a good job of managing its heat so I don't really think HM would be too big of a problem, also bulk coals are cheap so it would be nice if those worked well.

What does everyone else think or have experienced?

Thanks

I've tried jap coals, exoticas and coco naras.

Cocos are the worst, I always used Exotica sticks (cut in 4 pieces and used 2 or 3 depending of tobbaco). Jap coals (the grey sticks already cut in four) are too small for my taste, exoticas last longer.

Tbh I dontuse my glass screen anymore because it was such a bitch to clean, not worth the hassle to me.

I only tried using coconaras with the screen. It worked, but barely. The coals would just got out fast, even faster that normal since there was absolutely no air passing by them.

I liked the concept of the glass screen, and would love to use mine more if I could find the right coal.

I've actually found cocos to work pretty damn well on our Jet/screen. They tend to stay pretty well lit as long as we make sure they are cooking nicely before we start it all up. Our biggest problem, and the reason we rarely use our Jet, is the fact that a 4 cocos will barely fit on the screen.

That seems like far too much heat to me...

All you have to do is after a session take a knife and scrape off the shit, takes 30 seconds.

Cocos work great for me.

Flip them every 15 minutes and use a windcover for about a minute after flipping and they work fantastically.

hmm and i did like cocos just hated the price, but buy 6 or more from thehookah and they end up being like 11.xx with a discount code.

Which is like 4 bucks cheaper than GC per box. Quick question Stuie how many coals do you need to use? Or better yet I use a small egyptian or will be using my small phunnel, you think 2 cocos would be enough heat? If so then you figure 84/2 = 42 sessions and with GC i get 96/3 = 32, so I'd be spending less and getting more from each box thanks to thehookah, so I am considering it long and hard ...

using a knife on glass is a bad idea. youll scratch the glass, which eventually will fill with grim that will be pretty much stuck in there until you boil it with some abrasive material.

I use two on my screen. 3 is even very close to being too much for Nakhla that way.

i use exoticas with mine abd it gets the job done the best. cocos are to expensive because a glass screen uses alot more coals. but exoticas are perfect for the job. i use 3 pieces that are 1/4 of the finger itsef (3/4 total). on my glass phunnel i use 2 rounds no windscreen required.

Might want to try out CH coals, they put off a fair amount of heat, which is kinda needed with the glass screen. They also last quite a while, and the price isnt to bad, only problem I have had so far is the amount of smoke they put off while lighting.
