Certain Coals For A Certain Flavor?

Recommended Posts

So since I've ran out of cocos and have been relying on bulk charcoal for the past 2 months, I was looking around my room and found these easy light coals that i got from gothookahs.

http://www.hookahforum.com/index.php?s=&am...st&p=334897 , my review.

And seems like they are the perfect coals to smoke the more "harsher" flavors. My AF orange, peach, esk apple and watermelon has been always been a harsh flavor when i use cocos and the wood charcoal to smoke with them.

But I've smoked all of those flavors with the easylite coals and they make a huge difference. No more harsh and overpowering flavor whatsoever, actually, i enjoyed every single flavor smoking with these coals.

Just a thought, is it because of the lower heat that these coals give out? I have also been over packing the tobacco just a little bit over the rim of the bowl, because i found out that it really helps with the amount of smoke i get.

What are your inputs on this?

i usually always pack a hefty bowl. seems to give a more thick and dense flavor. as far as the coals, i always use natural bulk coals cuz of their cheap price. 12 bucks for 40 pounds. how are you lighting yours though? that may be a reason why they are too hot.

i burned two coconaras on a standard mya saray pot. i burn fully only one side of the coal, and that seems to control heating issues i have, and on the plus side, my coco naras last longer. and the smoke dosent go harsh!

Yeah, I find that certain coals are just better for different brands and even flavors too.

As a general rule I use only bulk naturals for tangiers and AF when I can, because the more delicate heat seems to work better. On the other hand for shisha that needs more heat like Nakhla/Afzal/Cleopatra/Layalina/AW I often use japs, or three kings.

lighting my cocos or my easylites? well i use a portable gas stove for both, but i cant think of a reason really why my method of coal lighting will ultimately affect the heat given off by the coals..

overpacking the bowl a bit does seem to give better smoke and flavor though, but i wouldn't do it if i was using cocos.

also, how are you lighting your bulk charcoal? any tips about that?

p.s forgot i made this thread.. heh.
