navynmr
Ive owned a couple of silver hookahs and one gunmetal black hookah. When i smoke the black hookah, there is a slight hint of warmness.I think silver reflective hookahs are better for smoking outside if u prefer to keep everything in the hookah at a cooler temp. Even when smoking indoors there is a slight temp difference.what is your oppinion? cause u know black absorbs all light and blah blah..
HookahDuck
That would have no effect on the smoke what-so-ever.
yashman19
That would have no effect on the smoke what-so-ever.
Well I'm pretty sure he means the black base would absorb some of the heat, making the water warmer, and effecting the smoke in that way. However minor it is, I still think this is possible. I've smoked outside with my friends with a clear, green base hookah and when it was in the sun, I could feel a difference. It wasn't anything to complain about, but I did notice it.
Sonthert
I think the duck has hit on the truth. I am fairly sure the color of the metal has no influence on the smoking of the pipe.
navynmr
There is a slight difference, id run a test but i gave my black hookah away. A silver color stem and or base would reflect light away. Black would absorb more making the water slightly warmer. Just like white and black T-shirts, you dont think they would make much of a difference but when you run a thermometer test, theres a lot of temp difference
HookahDuck
Navy, come on now. Many people(including me) that putting ice in the base has a very minute effect on the smoke, and is largely unnoticable. Thats a temperature change of at least 40+ degrees if smoking inside. The difference in the temperature of your stem could not be more than .5 degrees, if that. I realize that the smoke has a longer duration of time in the stem than the water, but there is just no way that it would be a noticable difference. My Black Stargate and chrome egyptian smoke almost identically. dizzing
hookahduck, come on now. ;)just because you don't notice much difference from putting ice in the vase doesn't mean there isn't a very real difference with very real effects. like you said, the smoke spends even more time in the stem than it does in the water. well, you say your black stargate and chrome egyptian smoke almost identically. do they have the exact same stem design? and have you tried smoking them outside in direct sunlight?i believe the entire point of this is, in direct sunlight a black stem would get much warmer than a reflective one made otherwise identically. i think that this absolutely might impact the smoke. however, i think both would get ridiculously hot in direct sunlight. plus, a lot of stems are designed with airspace between the actual downtube and the outside of the stem (mya's are, i know). so does the stem color make a difference? i'd say undoubtedly, yes. are there a half dozen other factors that make a much bigger difference? also, yes. i'd say the only time this'd be an issue is for someone who smokes a lot in direct sunlight, but even then after a while i think a chrome stemmed hookah will get too hot anyway. since the stems are usually insulated to a degree, this is a non-issue.*Shrug*
Sonthert
Come on now Diz! #1: The reflective properties of various colors is an optical effect. The processes occurring in a hookah is chemical and physical. Its roughly equivalent to saying a clean car drives better.#2: There will be a difference in the temperature of the pipe, if smoked in the sunlight, however this temperature difference will only produce an increase in the reflux of the vapor in the pipe, slightly. The vapor is "cool" because vaporization requires alot of thermal energy, an increase in temperature theoretically might reduce the amount of reflux, since the energy level is higher, the vapor might have a tendency to stay as a vapor. Either way, the thermal effect of heating something up 30-50 degrees is nothing compared to the temperature of the charcoal, so I would guess the effect would be negligible, as in insignificant, no offense, people. But there is a slight difference i noticed, probably because my base was acrylic black and not reflective
