Lemonjello
Man, this is the second time in a week from three kings coals that it sparked and got me in the finger!!!!My beautiful hands are scarred again with the burning death explosion from the seemly innocent coals!!!I know I should get natural, but quick light is so damn cheap and appealing! Maybe a candle lighter... maybe a match... or maybe a servant to pack my hookah and light the coals and burn their fingers is in order....Anyone else have as beautiful burns as I????!?!?!?!?! SixPackSunday
i would try the servant route first...if not that... then maybe hookah john ql's. far superior to any other ql out there, and dont spark as much imo.
popcornkid06
I've been sparked in the face a few times while blowing on the QLs but thankfully it only hurt for a second and didn't leave a mark. I've also been meaning to snag some of hookah john's QL - being in a dorm, i can't get naturals because of the coil burner

inino
well first i gotta say that QL's arent cheaper in the long run, unless you have some huge hook up price. other than that just spark them a little an put them on the tray until they are lit. AKammenzind
I don't even feel it anymore. I've gotten sparks all over my hands/arms/in my eyes, several through thin old shirts... almost caught one down below while smoking naked too, luckily not. What really does hurt is having a coal explode either a quick light while lighting, or an old natural... I had one land on my forearm and had an open hole in my flesh for most of a month. Even that's not so bad. Occasional pain kinda comes with the territory I'm afraid.
K1024
i was given a roll of coals of one brand that would literally send 10 inch sparks off of every single coal, multiple times per coal.im glad i ran out of those..

Nikon1323
you could get some pharaoh instant light coals...i got some and i think they work as good if not better than 3 kings.....they light quicker and easier and i dont think they spark as much either....but i still like 3 kings

They shouldn't hurt "you know, unless you a bitch or somethin'." (40 Year Old Virgin-best movie ever)
srawas89
well I have had this issue many times. Instead of getting ur face close to the coal and blowing on it, hold the coal firmly in the tongs and "fan" the tongs. (go back and forth fast) however only use that method if you know how to keep ur coals in the tongs while shaking it. If you need to practice that please do it outside on concrete or something that wont burn, I dont want to feel responsible for an accident lol. However 3 kings do shoot out sparks from time to time....I just keep holding the coals cuz I dont wanna drop em and I dont wanna look like a sissy especially if girls are around lol. srawas89
I agree with chinamon....if ur smoking inside the dorm (hypothetically of course) 3 kings are ur best bet, cuz the CH ql's will almost def. set of the smoke alarm.

I see some people do that with traditional disc ql's and them drop them into the tray until they fully ignite, do not do that with CH QL's. And as always, light them outside;)

srawas89
Scalli are you talking about the 3 kings? Nifty idea never thought of that, and it makes perfect sense. plus if you drop it it wont burn the carpet (or not as bad). However I wonder if I were to "fan" the coal by whipping my wrist back and forth for a bit if the coal will break up from the shaking.

It didn't matter if they were on tongs or in an ashtray they would fly. The teaball was the most convenient way of keeping from getting hit and/or carpet burns with those batches. I guess you could put them in a pan and put one of those grease spatter screens

Scalliwag
I know in the past others have complained about batches of Three Kings exploding. The term exploding may sound more extreme than the actual pop but none the less pieces of hot coal flies and that sucks. I thought I had a Youtube vid of starting them in a teaball but I guess I don't. I'll make one.
