cxc5120
Ok so I ordered some Tangiers Static Starlight a little while back and I still cant get it to smoke right... Ive watched the youtube video "Packing it like bulldog" like 50 times and do everything he does... Except I am using Three Kings Quick Light Coals. Is this my problem? The tab has acclimated and smells quite delicious. At first is has a good flavoring, but not as much smoke as it should, then it just turns into severe harshness lol...Plz help me

ebarnes02
Using quicklites I always break them in half when smoking Tangiers. It's really easy using whole coals to overheat the bowl and get that harshness. I usually light 1.5 halves putting 2 on the bowl and using the 3rd as they get smaller; that's on a small phunnel. ColibriDon
Not sure how to help you but that video you mentioned is interesting. I can't wait to try that tomorrow. Lately, my Tangiers sessions have been very inconsistent and I've been looking for a different way. Thanks for that.

Thanks for the postBut, so you guys think quicklights are ok? Should I break them up? and how?yes you need to break them up into halves... you should only be using 1 to 1 in a half coals.... I have a large tangier s funnel and two kings over heats that bowlsjust make sure to rotate the coals and constantly move them.... if it is getting harsh move them to the edge... not enough smoke then move them towards the center if it is still not enough smoke then add a half or a new coal. Its all about experimentation and finding what works for you

cxc5120
Yeah I watched that vid last night and want to give it a try. Didnt get the chance today. But I was wondering what does everyone use for poking the holes?I was using a toothpick or a scewer... Im kind of skeptical to use a fork or what snoopy uses

Bulldog_916
Woops, never mind, you already tried it.The QLs could be putting off a bit more heat than you might think.Try naturals would be my suggestion. Or split the coals into 4ths. I did that with the golden QLs and it worked very well. Edited February 12, 2009 by Bulldog_916

Bulldog_916
About the holes, you really want to make bigger holes than you would with anything else. Using a toothpick or a skewer. The bigger holes open up more room for heat to enter, meaning you need less than you would otherwise, with Tangiers being such a heat sensitive shisha. ebarnes02
I've always used bamboo skewers. Poke the hole through to the bottom. I do three rings of circles and that sets me up nicely.
