TizaNabi
Most all hookahs on the market are "Egytian style" and few are "Syrian". Here are some photos of sytrian hookahs and Syrian bowls. The Syrian bowls are massed produced, and the larger "Iranian" shisha bowls are often hand made but have the male connection too, while Egpytian head is a female connection. mushrat
Alas, the head style used to be the fastest way to tell, But i've noticed lately that even hookahs made in Syria are starting to use female heads. I think the male head is on the way out for the most part. SoonI bet there will be little difference. Shame really.

Tikhman
Yep, what he ^ said. The hose is especially a give away, I've had a few turkish friends and they confirmed that hose style is only made in turkey. Here's a link actuallyhttp://www.yurdan.com/yrdn/Search.aspx?q_k...ogID=YRDN_Gifts
inino
generally syrian pipes have hose ports that are skinny and stick up at a shapr angle. egyptians are wider and come out at less flatter angles. syrians have small purge valves or none at all. and the holes that lead to the hose port and purge valve are smaller for the most part.obviously this all generally speaking and there are exceptians to all these statements.
