Is My Hookah An Authentic Mya?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I just picked up my first hookah from a local shop and I was told the hookah I purchased is a mya. I wasn't able to find any markings that said MYA, but I did some research on the internet and I did find similar bases with the same design. It was the 'Mya Saturn'. Can anyone confirm from the pics whether its authentic or did I get ripped off? It was 80 bucks with coals and a sampler tobacco. I also need to purchase a case, any suggestions?

Im no expert but from the looks of it, its not legit. Also you said theres no markings that say mya anywhere, thats pretty much a dead give away thats it not.

I haven't used it yet. Should I return it? I feel kinda ripped off that it's not a real mya.

Did they say that it came with a mya hose and bowl? If so thats not true and would make it easier to confirm my suspicions.
If you can take it back you might want to try that. OF course just cause we think its not real doesnt mean it wont smoke great. It just prolly wont last as long. But you might want more opinions.

the base looks just like a Mya base. The stem however, does not. Look on the heart ( the round part that has the hose port) to see if there is Mya etched in it. If that is not there then you dont have a real Mya

Definitely.

If the shop was trying to rip you off, they deserve to have products returned to them. The other possibility(and this is very unlikely) is that the vendor they get their products from is ripping them off.

that bowl definetly isnt a mya bowl.

look in the ash tray, it may be very hard to see but there should be a mya stamp

also if the hose port unscrews it may very well actually be a mya, as they are the only ones with that feature, as far as i know. although if it doesnt unscrew that doesnt make the hookah not a mya.

There are no etchings of any sort, when I was in the shop I asked the worker I was looking for a good hookah and he pointed to a few and said, just these few are myas. I mean I'm not too picky, but is 80 too much to pay for this hookah?

For a generic Chinese pipe, yes, it is. You could buy two or three of those for $80.

I got a chinese-made hookah that has an unscrew hose port. Infact, a lot of it is a lot like a Mya hookah, except alof ot the material it's made out of is aluminum. If your pipe has a lot of aluminum parts, it's deffinately not Mya. It's a cheapo chinese ripoff.

Mine came to $100, but I don't feel I got ripped off. The sucker smokes great, and looks great. It just has a cheap inner stem and downstem. The rest is pretty sturdy.

But that pipe you got does NOT look worth $80. Even if it was a Mya it ain't worth $80. You could get a much better deal for your money online.

As other people have said, that doesnt seem legit, vase does look kinda MYA but a bit "cheaper", stem is defineatly not MYA considering that you said that there were no MYA marks, havent seen that design either (whole stem or the "heart") + that i dont believe MYA has ever used that "dark chrome" color. Also MYA doesnt use purge valves that look like that, they are everywhere on cheap chinese no-name hookahs though sad.gif
Hose isnt MYA, neither is the bowl, the store owner was lying and you havent use the hookah, i think you by law have the right to turn it back, he did tell you false information making you believe you were buying something that you were not. Throw it in his face, damn i get angry when i see stuff like this

Thanks for all the help. I mean I kinda bought this hookah on as an impulse, but when he said it was a mya, I automatically got excited and believed I was buying a quality product. There was no receipt though, should I still be ok?

Even without a receipt, they keep inventory and sales logs. He can't deny selling it to you, period.

Considering that he ripped you off i dont think a receipt is needed, not sure how the law in the states applies to this though, i think if you just try to turn it back and being polite, telling him that it isnt a real MYA etc it shouldnt be an issue, if he is being a bitc* about it you could try to get some proof, im pretty sure all MYA hookahs has a MYA mark on the stem (heart), as a last resort you could call MYA and ask, maybe give the shop-owner the phone so MYA personally could tell him he is selling ripoffs happy.gif

Also, welcome to the forums! biggrin.gif Be sure to tell us how this follows up, hopefully you get your money back so we can help you find some really nice deals! Hookah.gif

Blatant fake, regardless of etchings. Looks similar in many aspects to a Mya, so I'd imagine it's a straight up ripoff of their design... Like others suggested, it may smoke just fine but it's not worth the price you paid and I'm sure it won't last as long. At the same time though, a real Mya that's on par with that (size, style) will run you a fair bit more even online, expect to pay around $100-120 or so for it unless you're willing to go to either a smaller or an acrylic model.

Wow, that's sucks about getting shafted. When my boyfriend and I were looking to buy our first hookah (before we knew anything about them) we got screwed over by a local shop. Bought some cheap hookah that fell apart within a week.

I guess it's all a learning process.
