3kings Vs Johns Ql

Recommended Posts

just wondering the difference between these 2 heat management wise.

do you use the same number on any given bowl?
size comparison between 33mm 3king and johns ql
how easy are johns ql broken in half?

thanks.

johns ql's give off more heat than 3 kings. I prefer 3kings over john's just because imo his ql's give off too much heat. I dont know how easy it is to split any of the coals cuz I never tried it.

On a mod bowl I use one of either type but when using one CH it is just the right heat, one 33mm 3K doesn't give off as much as it should.

That being said CH smelled like chemicals even after fully lit, the whole way through my sessions, which annoyed me, so 44mm 3K are still my go to quicklight. Edited by soldier92

It's actually funny you say that supersubby because I agree, it's strange that even though CH coals give off the smell they still seem to be less toxic, 3K taste really bad but I've never had taste imparted from CH they just seem cleaner to me.

well if i was going to use a quicklite i would use johns.....but i will never use a quicklite

tell me what kind of bowl you use and youl get a better awnser

heres a pic of my bowl :

its the tiny one in front of a medium phunnel. its for the leila, where heat management is incredibly important (there are things that will melt). half - half and a quarter of a 3 kings is plenty. one jap coal is plenty, almost to much.

so assuming that johns coals are unbreakable that means i basically dont want them. thanks!

Wow.. you really need to clean your bowls. One light scrub with a scotch brite pad will take all that crap off your phunnel.

your funny. ive done that, boiled the bowl, etc. i dont need to clean that crap off anyways, its pretty much flat.

Yeah dream on about breaking CH quicklites...for pete's sake, I can't even ash them by slamming them into the coal tray...I have to crush them with tongs to get the ash off.

CH QLs light super fast, but spark like mad. They do smell during lighting, but impart no noticable taste, and taste far better IMO than 3kings.

I don't know why you guys are having such a hard time splitting HJ QL. Just take a steak knife, hold the quick light, and SOFTLY saw down the center. When you get about half way down, knock the knife with something like a heavy spoon and it will crack in half. I can cut a quick light in about 6 or 7 seconds.

so i went out on a limb and bought some of johns non ql coals. they are pretty nice, but im pretty sure half a 3 kings puts off way more heat than half of one of johns coals..
