I am not sure what this is, whether it is a concept or a initial design for the ZR1 but one thing is clear, Chevy got very offended when the Nissan GTR was named a vette killer. Ever since the GTR was given that title, Chevy has been storming to be better. Although you cannot deny the raw power of the ZR1,it is still sticking to the old, played out traditon of American Muscle..."Bigger is Better". Nissan did something with their 6cyl monster that no automobile manufacturer has ever done, and what does Chevy do to steal the hype? Make their 8cyl motor and slap a supercharger on it. And even with the new ZR1 is can barely beat the stats on a 6cyl 3.8L Nissan. Its sad really, maybe one day American cars will be worth something again.

if i have the means to buy these types of cars then yes its worth it..to me the gtr is not good looking at all..and to be honest i hate nissan and i dont care for rice burners..thats all it really is..a rice burner..they just used long grain rice for this one..lol im a american muscle kind of guy..a 72 chevelle ss pushing 1500hp tearing new assholes at every corner..lol and that corvette is no different..even if the gtr has the same specs hp and tq wise id still pay the extra 25k for the vette cause lets face it..that bytch is so damn sexy..lol

what do you classify DSMs as??

if i want a dsm id get a laser or something along those lines, drop $20k into and pretty much wipe the floor with that gtr..but people dont just pay for hp and speed..looks have alot to do with it..and to me if i had the means id spend the extra money and get the vette smile.gif

Or save yourself a fortune, get a 95-96 viper at $26-$28K, then go find some nissan gtr's to stomp on.... and look better while doing it. MUCH better.

I am an American muscle kind too... for the 100K of a "tuned" sake-smoker GTR one can add a Sean Roe blower to a stock 96-00 viper and end up with a reliable-real-world 700 rear wheel HP and 720 ft lbs. All with less than 40K in it.(By the way, real-world dyno tests are showing the GTR at an actual 430ish-hp. Nissan has long been known for BS-ing the hp numbers)

HAHAHA, there is nothing you can do that will make one of the plainest looking cars in the world (plymouth) be as good as a high class sports car. with 20k you could make it as fast in a straight line, or faster but the GTR is not a drag car, you could never get a laser to set records on the nurbughring. brent rau does not drive a street legal 7 second car with full stock interior but a monster RWD 2g that somehow manages 6's I believe. I don't consider him a DSMer, whereas Shep is my hero. Though I'm pretty sure Shep scrapped his 92 talon project because it was too fast (sub 7.5s) and didn't meet safety codes for it's class. anyway, I'm done thread-jacking. Hooray GTR!!

i have no idea what i just read....

brents car is still a 2g it just has a tube chassis front end, rwd conversion and tubbed rear axle (and much more obviously) but it still runs a 4g63 and its not a tube chassis car so i still consider it a dsm.

i didnt say street racing either, i mean road racing at places like the nurburgring and laguna seca and buttonwillow etc etc etc. where the real talent comes out wink.gif

You mean at the Nurburing, where the Viper ACR holds the record, eh?

No flappy-paddle shifting, launch control, or mystery power dividers, just 8.1 litres of V-10.

aren't the new vipers 8.4L?

Yes they have been 8.4 since 2003 ('02 last 1/2 production). I was referring to the mid-'90's cars. Some of them are getting to the point they are affordable enough that the average person can drive one. (Insurance may be another story sad.gif )

Too bad they are discontinuing the viper. angry.gif

Actually Dodge is breaking the brand away from it's regular company. There are 4 individuals/companies aiming to make a deal on the brand. It will be nice to see what the car does without the corporate BS holding it back. Maybe they can dump the insurance-mandate limited HP for more of what the motor really has a potential for.

I so had the hots for one before I built my factory five. Insurance is what drove me off. With zero tickets over the past 4 years/no claims in the past 10 years, as old as dirt, everything I own insured with State FArm they refused to cover it, and said it would have to go through their "casualty & risk" carrier (whatever that is) They quoted 840$coupe and $960 convertable for 6 months with 2500$ deductables, and required exemption from anyone else ever driving it.

Still want one, but that insurance is stupid-silly.

The ACR is a handling package aimed at road circuit performance, it's the stock 8.4 engine.

nissan 3.6 L v-6 vs 8+ liter V10... Anyone that tries to convince me that an engine less than 1/2 the size will ever be competitive with the huge one needs to save that BS line for their girlfriend, she won't believe it either, but will have the good grace to not say anything. rolleyes.gif Go look at dragtimes. a '03 SRT with a paxton (cost of both the car and paxton=less than the GTR MSRP) turned a quarter in less time than a 08 gtr did 1/8th. Bahahahah.

A modded talon? Wait, didn't AMC start that line? enough said!

lol, a modded talon that feeds on muscle cars because no one else can build an "import" (assembled in Illinois I believe), that can even compete.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiSptlw-L_U

no nitrous. enough said.

Granted, it won't ever set any records on the nurburgring, but for probably about what a SRT4 costs MSRP, you could stomp that hennessey in 1/4. even if both had street tires, venom 1000s run high 9s. i'd still buy the viper if i had the $$$ just simply for the number of heads you'd turn and the number of fine females that would come out of the woodwork.

oh and Eagle was developed by Chrysler after they bought AMC in 87.

Meh I could care less about a SRT4 beating it, after driving it once it was shit tons of fun and would be a joy to drive. Of course only if I had total disposable income.
